Mark DeLuca will be fighting Kevin Ross at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 2" on May 14th in the nights main event. Mark was kind enough to take some time and answer some questions for Muay Thai Authority regarding his upcoming bout with Kevin Ross.
MTA: You have a big fight coming up against Kevin Ross on May 14th in Primm, rumor has it you asked to fight Kevin. Is that true and if so why?
Mark: I never called him out or anything, but given the whole east v. west debate and me being a 140lb east coast fighter, I volunteered to step up and put my skills to the test.
MTA: Ross is considered the top American Muay Thai fighter by many, do you feel there are any holes in his game you can exploit?
MTA: Ross is considered the top American Muay Thai fighter by many, do you feel there are any holes in his game you can exploit?
Mark: He a is a very complete fighter with some great victories on his CV. I am working on my weaknesses and building my strengths this cycle to be able to fight well in all ranges. I will have to be on top of my game to beat him, but that's where I plan to be on May 14th.
MTA: Where do you think your strengths in the fight will be?
MTA: Where do you think your strengths in the fight will be?
Mark: I will be well conditioned and will test the ranges out to see where I want to take the fight.
MTA: How is your training for the fight going, and what type of training do you do to get prepared?
MTA: How is your training for the fight going, and what type of training do you do to get prepared?
Mark: Training is going great. I am covering all the bases doing my pad work, bag work, sparring, clinching as well as the running and strength & conditioning. I'm getting to work with some friends/fighters from outside my own gym to keep me on my toes!
MTA: Can you give us a prediction for the fight?
Mark: I never give predictions but it will be a great fight between two warriors that I hope the fans enjoy!
MTA: Aside from fighting Kevin you are going to also be fighting June 11th for Journey Fight Series against Nate Smandych, having back to back fights scheduled, does it make it hard to focus on your current fight?
Mark: No, I'll take it one fight at a time, never look past the task at hand. My fight in May has all of my focus right now.
MTA: By the time June 11th comes around you will have fought 4 times this year, how many times are you planning on fighting this year?
Mark: Yea its been a pretty busy year so far, busier than I've ever been really. Probably 2-3 more times in 2011, we will have to see what comes up.
MTA: Do you have any other fights planned after the Nate Smandych bout?
Thanks for doing your part in updating everyone in the Muay Thai community about the fighters, events, etc. and helping the sport grow.
