Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4" delivered some great Muay Thai action at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this past weekend. In the night's main event Chaz Mulkey continued his climb up the international ladder with his win over Simon Chu. Chidi Njokuani made a successful return to Muay Thai with a KO of Ken Tran. Coke Chunhawat ended a two fight skid against Rami Ibrahim and Malaipet ended five fight stretch in which he went 0-4-1 by scoring a win over Jose Palacios
Below are a few match-ups that would make sense as the next possible fight for some of the competitors from "Battle in the Desert 4".
Chaz Mulkey vs. Jesse Miles
Mulkey capped off a great year with his unanimous decision win over Simon Chu at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4". Mulkey has stated he wants to continue to fight top quality opponents. Jesse Miles fights out of Calgary, Canada and would be a great match up for Mulkey. Miles was one of 16 fighters chosen to compete on "The Challenger Muaythai" reality show and has fought in the Kings Cup in Thailand. A win over Jesse Miles would continue to propel Mulkey in the right direction as he looks to eventually fight for a world title.
Coke Chunhawat vs. Kevin Ross/Matt Embree
Coke Chunhawat ended a two fight skid with his win over Rami Ibrahim, he has expressed interest in fighting Kevin Ross or Matt Embree. Ross defeated Coke in 2009, in what many consider a breakthrough fight for Ross. Embree and Coke have split two extremely close fights and a rubber match would be fitting. With Ross being the higher profile fighter between he and Embree, a bout between Coke and Ross would probably draw more buzz. Either match-up would be a good fight and with Coke clearly looking to avenge those losses, they could prove to be really exciting fights.
Rami Ibrahim vs. Justin Greskiewicz
Despite dropping a decision to Coke Chunhawat, Ibrahim showed he belongs in the ring with high level fighters. Ibrahim likes to fight at 135lbs, the competition is not there at the moment. At 140lbs a great fight would be a re-match with Justin Greskiewicz, the pair fought to a draw in 2009. A fight with Greskiewicz not only provides him a fight with a tough fighter, but one that is respected.
Malaipet vs. Scotty Leffler
Malaipet has proven time and time again that he will fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. He defeated Jose Palacios on short notice via split decision, ending five fight run in which he went 0-4-1. It is yet to be seen if Malaipet can return to prime form, but Scotty Leffler would be a tough test and a solid victory if he were to win the fight.
Jose Palacios vs. Michael Mananquil
Palacios came up short in a close fight with Malaipet (split decision), but the upside is there for Palacios. Manaquil is an established fighter who likes to push the pace and throw a volume of strikes. Both fighters are from Northern California, so bragging rights would be on the line. Mananquil has split two fights with Malaipet, a win over Mananquil could set up a potential re-match for Palacios with Malaipet.
Chidi Njokuani vs. Alex Berrios
Njokunai looked great against Ken Tran, he used his size and reach to keep Tran at bay by landing some strong and accurate strikes. If Njokuani decides to continue in Muay Thai (before this fight he had a break to fight MMA), then odds are he is probably looking to earn a re-match with Joe Schilling. Njokuani's only loss is to Schilling, but for Njokuani to earn that re-match he has to take out a few more opponents. Alex Berrios from Florida is a highly skilled fighter and unlike with Tran, Njokuani will not have much of a size advantage against him. If Njokuani can beat Berrios, it would be a solid win that helps push him closer to a potential re-match.
