KaOs Muay Thai Fight Gala results: Miles and Bastian win

On Saturday October 16th, Mike Miles with the assistance of CAKMA (Calgary Amateur Kickboxing & Muay Thai Association) promoted KaOs Professional MuayThai Gala. The event featured 2 title fights and was designed to raise funds for the children's charity 'Little Warriors'. This charity deals with sexual abuse of children and the education of.

"The upper case letters in the show name was to highlight "KO" for Little Warriors. I am not sure how well the concept worked as some people asked me why I spelled chaos wrong! Ha ha", said Mike Miles. "The show went very well, though people were late in arriving, after a few bouts the place was full!" Considering we were up against the UFC, home town NHL hockey featuring Calgary against Edmonton (a rivalry as old as the cities themselves), an Ernesto Hoost seminar, and about a dozen more events, I think the show did very well!

Entering the main event Jesse Miles was fresh off the Sport Accord Games in Beijing, China, and Juan Chacon was looking to take world title back to Spain.  The fight started off with a feeling out process, but it didn't take long for both fighters to let their limbs start flying. Chacon drew first blood after being rocked with a left hook Miles moved in but was hit with an elbow that opened a small cut on top of his head. The second round saw Miles take control as the more aggressive and accurate fighter, the third round started off with Chacon the aggressor but Miles was able to capitalize with an nicely placed elbow that opened a cut on Chacon's forehead.

The fourth round continued with Miles not getting sucked into wild exchanges with Chacon and instead keep things under his control, when the fifth and final round started Miles then began to work at a different level by picking up the pace, as he scored with kicks and punches while avoiding the attacks of Chacon. In the end Miles was awarded a unanimous decision and the WKL Professional Middleweight Muay Thai Championship.

In the co-main event Sandria Bastian kept her undefeated reacord intact against Catarina Valerio from Portugal. Through the first two round Valerio used the clinch to defend from Bastian's attacks but in the third round Bastian was able to start landing some significant blows. Valerio was more concerned with defending against Bastian's attack than creating her own, and in the final two rounds played out with Bastian being able to open up more with her attacks as Valerio had no answer. In the end Bastian was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

Hakeem Dawodu put up his spot on Team Canada, if Rob Xoumphonphakdy won he would take Hakeem's place at the 2010 IFMA World MuayThai Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. The fight started with both fighters feeling each other out and midway through the round Dawodu dropped Xoumphonphakdy, after and standing eight count and made it through the first round. Dawodu seemed extremely calm during the fight picking his shots, and making them count. Dawodu dropped Xoumphonphakdy in the second round and the fight was stopped. With the win Hakeem Dawodu keeps his roster spot on Team Canada for the 2010 IFMA World MuayThai Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Peter Arbeau and Ruel Copeland both had one day to prepare for this bout. Copeland took the role of aggressor while Arbeau used a counter attack. The fight played out like this through all five round and in the end Arbeau was awarded a unanimous decision.

Mark MacKinnon used well placed kicks against Deaglan Davidson as well as some well placed elbows from the clinch, but surprisingly they were to the body. However, unorthodox the method was MacKinnon was able to secure a victory by unanimous decision from the judges.

Max Carruther and TJ Dubas met in a modified rules bout which did not allow elbows or knees to the head and both fighters wore shin guards and head gear. After a first round that went Dubas way, Carruthers was able to take the second and third rounds to win a unanimous decision.
