Romie Adanza - Sometimes they come back

Going into his October 2nd fight with Paulo Da Silva, Romie Adanza was facing a dilemma many horror movie heroines have to deal with. Sometimes the bad guys just keep coming back. Much like what Michael Myers is to Jamie Lee Curtis character in Halloween, and Freddy Krueger is to the kids of Elm Street, Paulo Da Silva is to Romie Adanza. The only difference is that Paulo Da Silva isn’t a homicidal maniac; however, he is a bad man inside the ring with great skill.

Adanza had already had three fights with Da Silva, coming into the fourth bout. Adanza took the first, Da Silva the second, and then Adanza the third. You would think it would be over since normally the rubber match is the fight to settle things between fighters who have split two fights previously, but filling in on short notice for Haigang Huang, Da Silva returned for a fourth fight.

“When I found out about Paulo I was a little disappointed.” Adanza said. “4 times with the guy. I got one, then him, then me, so now I'm a little worried. Shit it's his turn.”

Adanza is one of the best American Muay Thai fighters in the world, and as long as he shows up and performs to the best of his abilities he shouldn’t have much to worry about, but this is the fight game and anything can happen. Behind a solid fight camp with Team Oyama, Adanza showed up and took home the fourth fight via unanimous decision and defended his IKKC Muay Thai International Super Bantamweight Title.

“My team wasn't worried though, they always give me strength, train me hard, push me, keep me focused, so they were confident.” Adanza said. “That gives me confidence, I'm just glad I won, Broke the "take turns cycle".”

So what’s next now for Adanza? Possibly a fifth fight with Paulo Da Silva. Adanza will likely be part of a four man tournament in China that will feature none other than Paulo Da Silva, Haigang Huang, and Kunitaka Fujiwara. Adanza doesn’t mind fighting Da Silva a fifth time, but he prefer it be in the tournament finals.

After taking a week off Adanza is ready to get back into training with Team Oyama, and aside from Muay Thai he has been training with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu extraordinaire Giva “The Arm Collector” Santana, but don’t worry Adanza is not looking to move his skills from the ring to the cage any time soon.

“Who knows Maybe an MMA match one day, no rush though. Wanna go far as I can in Muay Thai.” Adanza said. “That's the main goal, plus my ground game is garbage so I'll take my sweet time with that. One before I retire though at least.”

The four man tournament in China will keep things interesting with fight possibilities for Adanza. There is the obvious fifth fight with Da Silva, a change to avenge his loss to Fujiwara, or take on his original opponent for October 2nd, Haigang Huang. Whatever combination is thrown Adanza’s way, you can bet on his being ready to put on an exciting fight.
