On Sunday Dec. 5th at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, CA the biggest Muay Thai fight in America will take place when Malaipet and Kevin Ross meet. The fight is set for 147lbs Malaipet is moving down and Ross is moving up and it should prove an exciting bout.
Muay Thai Authority contacted several fighters, trainers, and Muay Thai personalities to get their opinions on this highly anticipated fight.
Mark Beecher: Well since I train Kevin, and he is one of my best friends…I'm picking Malaipet .... JOKING !!! Kev all the way man !!
Artem Sharoshkin: Kevin.
Luis Bio: Kevin.
Jared Lara: Kevin's a tough S.O.B. but if Malaipet is on his game and training hard he's not gonna loose. I'm gonna have to go with my friend Malaipet. Either way its gonna be a good fight.
Kenny Finister: Bang bang time in this fight for sure, but I think people feel Malaipet is washed up. I think he doesn't want to lose two fights in a row so he will bring it and so will Kevin's tough ass. Malaipet via split decision.
Chris Gregory: About 3 or 4 years ago... I was sitting ringside when I saw... and heard Malaipet hit a guy in the arm so hard... while he had his guard up... that his arm went dead. Literally. He tried to "shake it off" but 8 seconds later, there was a KO. I'm just sayin' ... that is some amazing punching power there. Now on the other hand, I sat ringside about 1 to 2 years ago when, Kevin was fighting and as I was quickly jotting down a note. (I had only looked away for literally 1 sec) when I heard a crack... followed by a gasp from the crowd. Kevin KO'd the guy and he was still standing unconscious against the ropes and ref dove in. I anticipate nothing less from either of these warriors when they meet. For some of you attending... I might recommend diapers.
Joe Schilling: We all have a number for how many fights we want to train for, fight in, and heal from, and I think Malaipet's not into it any more. I only hope I get anywhere near the numbers he has. I pick Kevin, his head, heart, and body is definitely in it. Kevin unanimous decision.
Colin Oyama: I think motivation is the key. Malaipet has accomplished a lot and therefore in my opinion has very little to prove, Kevin on the other hand has lots of motivation and wants to show the world that he belongs. When you combine his work ethic and his motivation, I think he will pull out a tight one. Best of luck to both fighters, it's gonna be a great fight!!
David Huey: Malaipet will win the first two rounds, third round can go either way. Kevin will win rounds four and five. Whoever wins round three will win the fight.
Roxy Richardson: I think Kevin has the heart, the skill and the drive to win it. Does anyone know if Malaipet is gonna have trouble with this weight cut? It's a little lighter than normal for him, right? As some fighters get older its harder for them to cut weight. If he tires from it that will be a big factor.
Baxter Humby: They're both my friends, if Malaipet trains this is gonna be a battle and I'll be there to witness the war. If not Kevin's got it.
Justin Greskiewicz: So, I'm really excited for this fight. Its gonna be rad. Both of these guys are top notch. But, I'm gonna pick Kevin taking this one. I know people have criticized Malaipet for not being serious about training for some of his fights recently. I know he's gonna take this fight seriously. But I think Kevin is just hungrier and wants this one more.
Eric Utsch: I think Kevin is going to win. Malaipet said he didn't have to train because Ross is from the states. Malaipet is fighting lighter than usual might make him get tired quicker. Kevin puts a lot of forward pressure on too, but Malaipet is Thai and been in the ring with some big name guys. Only time will tell who will win. I am hoping for Ross!! I think he will by decision.
Scotty Leffler: Kevin Ross 100% ...Because he wants it more.
Joey Pagliuso: I think there both talented and highly skilled. I think Kevin has more to prove. For me that gives Kevin the edge.
Freddy Medrano: 2 great fighters 1 great fight, I know them both and I wish them both the best. Don't underestimate 1 or the other. Good Luck!!
Joe Davidson: Kevin Ross. He's been on the big cards he's fought against the Thai. Kevin Ross on points....49-46. I also agree with Eric (Utsch) that Malaipet will be effected by the drop in weight.
Romie Adanza: No predictions here. Just excitement. Ok 1 prediction. Gonna be a great f*ckin fight.
