Muay Thai Authority caught up with Omar Ahmed to chat about his upcoming fight at Take-On Productions "Battle at the Beacon Theater". Omar was originally scheduled to fight Jake Mainini on the July 8th event but will now face an unknown opponent instead.
MTA: You have an upcoming fight with Jake Mainini how has your training for the fight been going?
Omar: My training is going good. I train hard for every fight.
MTA: You were originally scheduled to fight Jake Mainini but he recently had to withdraw from the fight. Does a change in opponent a few weeks before hand affect your training at all?
Omar: No not at all because I am a well rounded fighter and I don't stop my training when that happens. I train with all different types of fighters and I have fought all different types of styles in the ring. I just want to enjoy the luxury of fighting in the ring and put on a entertaining bout
MTA: Can you give us a prediction for the fight?
Omar: I believe I will win this fight. I never like to say what I think I'm going to do to my opponents because anything can happen in a fight but I'm always very confident
MTA: This is the first action you are going to see this year. Is there any particular reason for not having any fights the first half of the year?
Omar: The reason why I haven't fought this year so far is because I usually go to Thailand for winter time over here to train and fight, and I come back when the weather starts to get a little warmer. The main reason is because I was offered to be the head Muay Thai coach of a MMA gym in Manhattan New York called "New York Jiu Jitsu" and they have been taking care of me very well and I have been giving a lot of my time helping them out. I also teach at Sitan gym as well. So I decided to give back a little and help fighters get into the ring. 2010 was a very busy/big year for me in the ring.
MTA: You have stated before that you are going to take a few more fights and then likely relocate to Thailand or Holland is that still the plan?
Omar: I will definitely fight in Holland and in Thailand because I have many opportunities waiting for me there.
MTA: If you are still going is there anyone in particular you would like to fight here in the states before you go?
Omar: I was supposed to fight Kevin Ross June 25th but the date of the event got changed to July 8th and he wasn't able to do that date because its to close to the fight he has with Saenchai. I will fight again in the next Take-On event for sure in September I don't know against who yet but I'm open to fight anyone from North America.
MTA: What are your plans for the second half of the year, do you have any other fights scheduled?
Omar: I have July 8th scheduled, and I will try to get on as many shows I can the rest of the year, I don't pick my opponents so I don't know who I will be fighting though.
