The Weekend Rundown: Krause, Palacios, Ahmed, and Hinds all victorious

There were two notable Muay Thai events this weekend in North America. To make things easier for our readers when there are multiple event on a weekend we like to give them the Weekend Rundown on Mondays. The two events this weekend were Stand Up Promotions "Oblonsky vs. Krause" which took place at Commerce Casino in Commerce, CA on July 9th and Take-On Productions "Battle at the Beacon Theater" which took place in at the Beacon Theater in New York, NY on July 8th.  Below is a quick break down of each event as well as the results.

Stand Up Promotions "Oblonsky vs. Krause"
Stand Up Promotions had a sell out crowd of 1,200 in attendance on Saturday night at Commerce Casino in Commerce CA. The main event featured the return of Bryce Krause after a year and a half long layoff. Facing Krause in his return to the ring was MTAA national champion Shane Oblonsky who was looking to make his first title defense. From start to finish the action did not stop as Krause and Oblonsky fought tooth and nail to try and pull ahead. Krause pulled out early when he connected with a left hook that floored Oblonsky, but in the third round Oblonsky looked to make a comeback. He connected with some flush shots that seemed to have Krause in trouble but was not able to capitalize. Krause then seized control of the fight in the final rounds as he out muscled Oblonsky in the clinch. The judges awarded Krause a decision victory making him the new MTAA national champion.

Also on the card, Jose Palacios used well timed counter attacks to take a decision win over Artem Sharoshkin, while Sheldon Gaines used a methodical and technical approach in his victory over Borzoo Honargohar.

Take-On Productions "Battle at the Beacon Theater" 
Take-On Productions "Battle at the Beacon Theater" which was heavily marketed as the largest Muay Thai event in New York City history was a success for the promotion as they set a promotional best in attendance with roughly 1,700 people at the event. The current New York Muay Thai attendance record stands at over 2,500 people which was set by Friday Night Fights "Romulo vs. Hinds" event on May 14, 2010. The milestone night for the promotions included some exciting fights including a tilt between New York's Omar Ahmed and Holland's Nisvet Sivac. Ahmed was able to pick Sivac apart throughout the entire fight and had him hurt in the third round, but was not able to finish him before the bouts end. All of the judges scored the bout for Ahmed who took home a unanimous decision victory.

Another notable fight on the card was the rubber match between Eddie Martinez and Turan Hasanov. Despite the bad blood between these two fighter nothing was settled in the ring as the fight was declared a draw. Martinez effectively worked his leg kicks the entire fight, but Hasanov almost ended the fight when he knocked down Martinez in the second round. After an 8 count Martinez make sure to clinch with Hasanov so that he could not capitalize on his knockdown. This likely leaves the door open for the fighters to meet yet again.

The night's other two professional bouts featured Sean Hinds taking a decision over Douglas Edwards and Andy Singh was successful in his professional debut by defeating Eric Ruiz via decision.
