Breaking News: Friday Night Fights TV debut postponed, bigger TV deal in the works

Muay Thai Authority has recently  heard that Friday Night Fights has landed a large distribution deal with a major and well known network to begin broadcasting this fall. As a result, Justin Blair, President of Friday Night Fights has postponed the broadcasting of Friday Night Fights "8-to-1" event tomorrow night. The event was originally scheduled to broadcast over 3 consecutive Saturday nights beginning on August 13th. While the last minute change is a bit of a surprise we managed to catch up with Blair to ask him about this and other developments with Friday Night Fights.

MTA: How come the last minute change in broadcasting the event?

JB: We are really looking forward to broadcasting our events. We’ve made a great investment in gearing up to produce this for broadcast and have an incredible team of broadcaster however, We’ve found ourselves in the middle of a much further reaching distribution deal and unfortunately had to slow things down to ensure that the initial broadcast fit into what now looks like a larger overall plan.

MTA: Will the event that was supposed to air, ever be broadcast?

JB: Absolutely. It looks great, the fights look amazing and I’m more anxious than anyone to let everyone see it. Unfortunately….or, fortunately very recent events have changed the playing field a bit and we’re going to have to act accordingly.

MTA: In September, you guys are doing two shows within a week of one another. How come so close and will those be broadcast?

JB: In order to keep pace with the demand of our existing distribution deals we had to pick up the pace so the two events will allow us to come out of the gates with some really great shows! So, yes, they will absolutely be televised.

MTA: Who is scheduled to fight on those shows?

JB: The cards for both shows are incredible. Joe Sampieri vs. Harris Norwood and Chris Kwiatkowski vs. Joe Marchan Tipping are just a couple of matches. The events will also feature Eric Utsch, Brodie Farber, Joe Valtellini, Ognjen Topic, Liam Tarrant and quite a few more high caliber fighters.

MTA: Do you think that the jump to televised fights will bridge the gap between the east and west coast?

JB: I always get a laugh out of this East Coast / West Coast thing. We’ve been doing this for years and quite often have fighters from California on our shows. They are great competitors and there’s no doubt in my mind that fighters and fans on both coasts will be watching our matches on television to settle this supposed “dispute”.

MTA: What’s next for Friday Night Fights?

JB: We’ll, we’ve got a few irons in the fire. We’re ramping up the number of events we produce to meet the demand for our upcoming broadcast schedule and look forward to bringing the same level of professionalism that people have come to expect from our live events, to our broadcasts. We’re also looking forward to putting together some matches that fans from both coasts have been anticipating.
