Bernie Mendieta talks upcoming fight with Justin Greskiewicz

Bernie Mendieta will be taking on American Justin Greskiewicz on March 11th in the U.K. at Muay Thai Supershow. Mendieta is a young dynamic up and comer and will be looking to continue to climb up the European rankings when he takes on the always game Greskiewicz. Mendieta took some time from his training to talk to Muay Thai Authority about the upcoming fight.

MTA: You are set to fight Justin Greskiewicz on March 11th, how familiar are you with Justin G?

Bernie: I know a little bit about him, I know he recently fought Liam Harrison and got stopped in the second round! But has then had a couple of wins since then! I've watched a few of his fights he's a good fighter!

MTA: You are only 20 years of age and are on the rise. Do you feel pressure going into your fights to live up to expectations?

Bernie: Yeah of course I feel the pressure, more so of letting people down all my family and fans that are watching! But I just try to blank it out and focus on the job which is winning the fight! I'm usually the underdog which I like! So living up to people's expectations is hard when they know you have your work cut out! But they soon change there attitude when I win ha!

MTA:
You mentioned you have watched a few of his fights, how important is watching video on your opponents?

Bernie:
Yeah it's important for me to do a little research into my opponents. Watching there previous fights I can see some strengths and weaknesses so it's always pretty handy to get hold of a few of there previous fights! It wouldn't bother me if I don't always see any footage of my opponent before because as long as I'm ready to fight it doesn't matter what they are going to be like!

MTA: The U.S. is starting to put its name on the map as far as a country for Muay Thai. Seeing this is UK vs. US do you feel the need to win for your country, or do you simply see it as a need to win to improve your career?

Bernie: Yeah both really because it’s always good to represent your country and win against the Americans! But I would say it's more important for me and to improve my career, it's going to be a big fight for me and put my name on the map over in the states!

MTA: Not looking past Justin, but is there anyone in particular that you would like to fight after him?

Bernie: Jordan Watson would be one of the guys on the list also Ky Hollenbeck, these are both heavier but I want to fight them later on down the line! But what ever comes up I'll take! Don't mind fighting anyone any where I just love to fight!

MTA: Can you give us a prediction for the upcoming fight with Justin?

Bernie: There's going to be big fireworks I'm going in there to stop him!

MTA: Any words for your supporters?

Bernie:
Really appreciate all the support and keep checking my Facebook page and our gym page (Champions World Gym) for the latest updates and results!!!!
