Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 5” will take place on February 25th at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Muay Thai Authority has been informed by sources close to the situation about a slew of expected bouts for the Lion Fight Promotions fifth event. Coke Chunhawat and Matt Embree are expected to meet in a rubber match in what is expected to be a WBC Muay Thai title fight. Coke and Embree have split a pair of bouts already with each fighter taking home a razor thin split decision victory. The first meeting occurred in September of 2010 under the Stand Up Promotions banner when Coke edged Embree out. The second bout took place in June of 2011 under the Journey Fight Series banner when Embree evened the score by taking home a close split decision over Coke. The third bout is expected to closely contested, much like the first two fights.
Kit Cope vs. Jose Palacios is once again expected to take place for Lion Fight Promotions. The two were originally set to fight at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 4”, but Cope was not licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Malaipet Sasiprapa stepped in at the last minute to replace Cope in the fight with Palacios. After five rounds Malaipet took home a close split decision. It seems Cope is expected to get licensed, so hopefully this bout goes off as planned.
Scotty Leffler is expected to return to action after recovering from a broken jaw against California’s Sheldon Gaines. Leffler suffered the jaw injury in his fight against Jose Palacios at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 2” back in May. Gaines is currently riding at two fight win streak and will look to welcome Leffler back to action. Gaines last bout was a KO victory over Dillon Croushorn under the IFS banner.
Finally, Vivian Leung is expected to make be back in action at the event as she takes on Tiffany Van Soest. Leung recently defeated Cassie Trost at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 4” in November, while Van Soest defeated Lena Ovchynnikova at WCK Muay Thai’s “Wu Lin Feng Spectacular” in October.
Other fighters expected to be on the fight card although not confirmed are Joe Schilling, Chaz Mulkey and Eduardo Morais.
