North American Super Welterweight Rankings 1/28/2012

In addition to pound for pound rankings, Muay Thai Authority will now begin to rank fighters by weight class. The top five fighters in each weight class will be ranked in order from one to five. For a weight class to receive rankings there has to be at least five fighters that qualify to be ranked. If a weight class has two outstanding fighters, but there are not three other pro fighters that merit being in the rankings then there will be no rankings for that weight class. Below are the Super Welterweight North American rankings, the fifth individual weight class to be ranked by Muay Thai Authority.

1. Baxter Humby (39-8)
Humby scored an impressive KO over Domenik Zidov in September with a spinning heel kick to the liver. Since the KO of Zidov, the “One Armed Bandit” has not fought. A scheduled bout in Mexico fell through when the event was cancelled and his next bout is currently unknown. Humby has expressed interest in fighting Chaz Mulkey in the past and a re-match with Chike Lindsay is another interesting possibility.

2. Chike Lindsay (14-3)
Lindsay started 2012 on a rough note when was KO’d by Wang Wei in China. Despite the minor stumble, Lindsay is a top talent in the North American Muay Thai scene. Originally scheduled to fight Michael Corley at Bangkok Fight Night 12 in Atlanta, he will now be fighting Eddie Martinez. It will be interesting to see how Lindsay rebounds from the loss in China.

3. Bryce Krause (9-3-1)
Krause returned to action in 2011 after being out for over a year. He scored a decision win over Shane Oblonsky, but has not competed since. Krause has stated he is looking to remain active and rumors are he might be competing at the next Stand Up Promotions event. If Krause can stay healthy he can make a run in the 154lb division, his KO power make him a dangerous opponent for anyone.

4. Luis Bio (9-3)
The WBC Muay Thai National Mexican Champion had only one fight in 2011, a fight which he won via KO. Bio’s inactivity in 2011 was caused by a few nagging injuries he had to take time to heal. He is now set to fight Brian Hernandez in Mexico City on January 29th. Bio has a good size for the 154lb weight class and blended with his skill can be at the top of the 154lb heap if he sees more action, especially in the United States.

5. Shane Oblonsky (6-3)
Oblonsky will be taking on Jose Palacios at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 5” on February 25th in Las Vegas. He will be looking to rebound from a decision loss in China on January first. Oblonsky is a talented fighter that when focused can give you his opposition fits in the ring. He is now training with Colin Oyama which will undoubtedly help Oblonsky reach the next level.

Rankings qualification - Fighters are not to be inactive for any period longer than 12 months or they will be dropped from the rankings unless a fight is schedule within a month from the date they become ineligible. Fighter's that compete in two weight classes will be assigned a weight class that they compete in regularly or hold a major title in. Fighters must be based out of North America.

*If you are a fighter currently ranked in a weight class and would like to switch the weight class you are ranked in please notify Nathan@MuayThaiAuthority.com. Switching weight classes does not guarantee you will be ranked in the new weight class.
