A few changes in the light heavyweight rankings, Simon Marcus jumps up to the number one spot after his win over Joe Schilling and Andrew Kapel moves into the rankings. Dorian Price has dropped to a lower weight class and is no longer in the light heavyweight rankings.
1. Simon Marcus (25-0)
Marcus recently defeated Kaoklai Kaennorsing by unanimous decision in Thailand. Marcus has a busy schedule up ahead; he is set to fight two opponents on April 21st in China. In May fighting Joe Schilling at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI in a highly anticipated re-match from their first encounter which Marcus won via (T)KO. Marcus has proven to be a wrecking machine and if he defeats Schilling in May he will earn a WBC world title shot against Russian powerhouse Artem Levin.
2. Joe Schilling (12-2)
After scoring a huge knockout victory over Kaoklai, Schilling took on Canada’s Simon Marcus. The ruling that night was a (T)KO victory for Simon Marcus, but Schilling claims that Marcus used an illegal throw which dazed and lead to the (T)KO. The re-match is now set to take place May 12th in Las Vegas at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. If Schilling wins the bout then he will face Russian powerhouse Artem Levin in June for the WBC light heavyweight world title.
3. Alex Berrios (7-2)
Alex Berrios made quick work of Travis Lerchen on June 20th under the Friday Night Fights Muay Thai banner, stopping Lerchen in the first round. Berrios technical prowess and power make him a handful for most opponents. Training out of Tampa Muay Thai under Ray Cole he has emerged as one of the best light heavyweights in the United States. His next bout is currently unknown, but hopefully we see him back in action soon.
4. Andrew Kapel (9-3)
The Minnesota native last competed in August of 2011 against Fabrizio Sacco under the Ring Rivals banner. He defeated Sacco by KO in the third round due to a head kick. Since then Kapel has spent time training in Europe at gyms such as Bad Company. Kapel is a big light heavyweight who has well rounded skills and should prove to be a stiff test for anyone he steps in the ring with.
5. Travis Lerchen (9-2)
After defeating Dave Finz by split decision at Friday Night Fights “Fall Brawl” on November 4th. Lerchen was defeated rather easily by Alex Berrios. Lerchen tried to protest the stoppage during the Berrios fight, but the referee had none of it. Aside form the loss to Berrios his only other Muay Thai loss came via disqualification against Francisco Marin.
Rankings qualification - Fighters are not to be inactive for any period longer than 12 months or they will be dropped from the rankings unless a fight is schedule within a month from the date they become ineligible. Fighter's that compete in two weight classes will be assigned a weight class that they compete in regularly or hold a major title in.
