Luis Bio will be taking on Michael Mananquil this tomorrow at WCK Muay Thai’s “Beach Bash” in Oxnard, CA. Bio is currently the 160lb WBC Mexico National Champion and is looking to continue his climb to the top against the high respected and battle tested Mananquil. Muay Thai Authority caught with Bio who was kind enough to answer a few questions about his upcoming fight.
MTA: You have an upcoming fight with Michael Mananquil, how has your training for this fight been going?
Luis: Great, this training camp has been the one where I’ve spent the most time with my San Diego team and that makes me feel confident.
MTA: Michael has a very busy style, with punches thrown in volume. How are you preparing for his style?
Luis: Yes, Michael is a very active fighter; we’ve been trying to mimic him with sparring partners that have a busy style.
MTA: You have ended your last two fights by TKO due to cuts. Is using your elbows to open up your opponent’s part of your strategy going or just a bonus that comes with letting your elbows fly?
Luis: Not really, the outcome of my two past fights wasn’t planned; I simply saw the opportunity for the elbows and went for it.
MTA: You should be the bigger fighter of the two between Michael and yourself seeing as you have fought at 160 before and Michael is moving up in weight. Do you think the size difference will play a big role in the outcome of this fight?
Luis: Even though I’ve fought at 160 lbs before and my pro debut was at 168 lbs (didn’t know what I was doing at the time) I’m not much bigger than Michael, I mean the guys I used to fight walked around 180-185 lbs and cut plenty of weight to fight. I’m nowhere near that walking weight, that’s why I decided to go down to 154 lbs and maybe give 147 lbs a shot in the future.
MTA: What do you think Michael brings to this fight that you have to be on the look out for?
Luis: Besides from being very sharp with his technique, Michael brings a wealth of experience to the ring; he has fought top Thai and international fighters and that makes him familiar with diverse styles.
MTA: Where do you feel you might have an advantage in the fight?
Luis: Mmm…I’d say that this will be one of my toughest (if not the toughest) test to date and I want to ACE it.
MTA: What is your prediction for the fight?
Luis: A very clean, technical and action packed fight…come watch!
MTA: Any words you would like to say to your supporters?
Luis: Thanks to my Team, family, friends and girlfriend for their support throughout this training camp. I hope to see a bunch of you on Saturday.
