Updated North American Super Lightweight Rankings 7/26/2012

Not much shuffling in the updated Super Lightweight Rankings. The only change that takes place from the previous rankings is that Matt Embree now takes the number one spot after previously being ranked number two.

1. Matt Embree (21-3)
Embree is 2-0 in 2012 so far with a unanimous decision win over Coke Chunhawat in February and a split decision win over Nils Widlund in May. The Siam No. 1 product is now scheduled to face Lerdsila Chumpairtour on August 18th at Push Kick Promotions “Thailand vs. The Americas” event in Pomona, CA. Embree is known for his technical style and pin point accuracy, something which has many fans clamoring for a fight with American stand out Kevin Ross. The pair was scheduled to fight in May until a knee injury forced Ross to withdraw from the bout.

2. Kevin Ross (17-8)
Ross has continuously shown he isn't afraid to step into the ring with the best in the world and after his fight against Saenchai he stepped into the ring with current Lumpinee champion Sakkedao. The fight didn't go exactly the way Ross would have liked as a cut stopped the fight after the third round, giving the win to Sakkedao. After winning the 2010 Muay Thai Authority fighter of the year award, 2011 has been some what of a rough year for Ross. You can't ignore the fact that Ross is fighting world class competition, but he is now 1-3 on the year with his only win coming back in May against Mark DeLuca. Ross is currently on the mend until he is completely recovered from knee surgery, but there are many interesting match-ups for him upon his return, including bouts against Canadians Matt Embree, Gabriel Varga or Josh Palmer.

3. Josh Palmer (38-17)
Palmer was considered one of the favorites to win the Siam Warriors eight man tournament in Cork, Ireland. Palmer was matched up with another tournament favorite, Panicus Yousf in the opening round and dropped a decision. The tournament bouts were three rounds only, and Palmer came on strong after the first two round so it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if it was a five round bout. Palmer’s next bout is unknown, but he has expressed interest in fighting Kevin Ross in the past.

4. Gabriel Varga (5-1)
Varga has some great technical skills, unfortunately for fans his latest fight was cancelled at the last minute when his opponent, Justin Greskiewicz was forced to withdraw due to an injury. Varga is now once again set to fight Greskiewicz this time at Take-On Productions August 11th event in New York. In addition to the bout with Greskiewicz, Varga is expected to face Lerdsila Chumpairtour at the K-1 event on September 8th in Los Angeles.

5. Justin Greskiewicz (17-9-3)
Greskiewicz was on a three fight winning streak with victories over Eddie Martinez, Turan Hasanov, and Bernie Mendieta before dropping a decision to Malaipet. Greskiewicz is now scheduled to face Gabriel Varga at Take-On Productions August 11th event in New York. He is then scheduled to compete in the 8-man K-1 Max tournament in Los Angeles, CA. Greskiewicz will be moving up to 154lbs for the Max tournament.
