MTIA returns with December 1st event featuring Simon Marcus, Julie Kitchen, Rungravee, Coke, and Chike Lindsay

Muay Thai in America (MTIA) is set to return on December 1, 2012 for their event "In Honor of the King" a celebration of the King of Thailand's 85th Birthday. The MTIA event will take place at Raleigh Studio in Playa Vista and will be available for PPV purchase on Direct TV and INDEMAND.

Headlining the event will be a bout between Canadian power house Simon Marcus and Sweden’s Sadibou Sy. Marcus is regarded by many one of the top three light heavyweights in the world and will be seeing his first action since his May win over Joe Schilling at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. Sy comes in looking to cement his name in the international scene; a win over the likes of Simon Marcus will make that happen.

The night’s co-main event will feature a bout between Julie Kitchen (@JulieKitchenUK) and Amanda Kelly. UK bombshell, Kitchen has increased her popularity in the United States the past few years, in her last visit to the states she suffered a loss to Miriam Nakamoto in fight many considered to be on of the best of the year. Kelly, also a UK native will be looking to steal some of Kitchen’s thunder with a victory over her. With the large fan base Kitchen has in the United States, it would be perfect timing for Kelly to try and take some of Kitchen’s thunder away.

The night’s event will also feature a bout with fan favorite Rungravee Sasiprapa as he takes on England’s Damien Trainor (@Damien_Trainor). The pair fought in England at Duel at the Dome in 2011 and Rungravee took home the win by decision. Trainor will be looking to even the score this time around and the re-match should prove to be just as entertaining as the first bout.

Chike Lindsay will also be in action as he takes on Christophe Pruvost. Lindsay will be coming off a fight three weeks prior at Take-On Productions: Muay Thai at the Mecca 2 before fighting Pruvost. Lindsay has scored some impressive wins in the past year including a devastating elbow knockout of Eddie Martinez and another win over Malaipet Sasiprapa. Pruvost is probably best known to American fans for his win at the first Muay Thai in America show back in 2010, where he defeated Malaipet. Pruvost should prove to be a tough test for Lindsay and vice versa.

Andy Howson (@AndyPun101BC) from the UK will be fighting on the card as well. The always outspoken fighter will be taking on Thanit Whattanaya who most recently came off a victory over Romie Adanza at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. Howson in the mean while is coming off a controversial loss at the Siam Warriors show in Ireland. It should be interesting to see if Howson can get Whattanaya into a fire fight or if Whattanaya will counter fight.

Coke Chunhawat will be fighting Paul Karpowicz. Coke is coming of a (T)KO victory over Adrian Morilla at Lion Fight Muay Thai VII. Karpowicz has proven to be a technical fighter and it should prove to be a stiffer test for the very experienced Coke.

Matt Embree will be returning state side. Most recently he dropped a decision to Lerdsila Chumpairtour at Push Kick Promotions: Americas vs. Thailand. Before the loss to Lerdsila he scored a pair of back to back victories under the Lion Fight Muay Thai banner. He will be facing England’s Greg Wooten. Embree will be in action this upcoming weekend against Nate Smandych, before taking on Wooten. This past July Wooten defeated Luke Turner in an exciting back and forth fight that many fans of the Xplosion 7 event were calling fan of the night. The main event that night was Steven Wakeling vs. Artem Levin, so that says something.

Joseph Valtellini (@BazookaJoeV) will return to action after suffering the first defeat of his career. He dropped a decision to Gregory Choplin at Lion Fight Muay Thai VII in an exciting fight. He will be taking on Mehdi Baghdad, a former K-1 fighter who has been focusing on MMA the past few years. Both fighters are aggressive and it should prove to be an exciting fight.

Rounding out the fight card will be Justin Greskiewicz (@MuaythaiStayFly) vs. Salah Abdelsalam. Both fighters are known for entertaining crowds and fans should be kept entertained in this one. Greskiewicz bounced back form a loss to Malaipet at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI with a (T)KO win over Bryce Krause at the K-1 event in Los Angeles.

MTIA has set the bar and is expected to become the industry leader in professional martial art competition.

“For the first time, an American Muay Thai Promoter has been selected to showcase the prowess of Muay Thai for this royal event,” said MUAY THAI IN AMERICA PRESIDENT Don McDaniels. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to not only demonstrate the devastating combat sport of Muay Thai, better known as “The Art of Eight Limbs”, but also to showcase the fighting skills of America’s Muay Thai champions, and the best fighters from around the world.”

“This match-up has been in the works for quite some time, but no promoter in UK has ever been able to make it happen” said McDaniels. “Julie has a huge following in the United States, it should be a treat for her fans to get to see her fight on American soil once again against a great fighter such Amanda Kelly.”
Also taking fighting honor of the king’s birthday is Thai terminator Rungravee Sasiprapa taking on England’s Damien Trainor.

America’s Justin Greskiewicz will face off against Libya’s Salah Abdelsalam to kick the night’s fights off.

“With 18 world class fighters competing on the same event, any one of these bouts would serve as the main event on most fight cards,” said McDaniels. “We expect these fighters to show case nothing but the best Muay Thai skills, not only in honor of the king of Thailand’s birthday, but so that fans in America and round the world can witness the beauty of this art.”

In addition to being undefeated with a perfect record of 28-0, Simon Marcus is known for his brutal strength and excellent technique. In 2012 alone he has added five dominant victories to his record. They include wins over legend Kaoklai Kaennorsing, American powerhouse Joe Schilling (twice), as well as two wins in China where he fought two opponents in one night. Training out of Siam No. 1 in Toronto, Canada under Ajahn Suchart, Marcus has quickly made his impact felt not only in the North American Muay Thai scene, but world wide.

With a record of 42-3, Sadibou Sy is expected to test the fast rising Simon Marcus. Born in Sweden but of West African decent, Sy broke on the international scene at the age of 19 when he won the Nordic Open Championship by spinning heel-kick knockout. He went on to compete in the ISKA World Championships where he won 2 gold medals as well as the championship award for most outstanding fighter of the tournament.

Know as “The Queen of Muay Thai” Julie Kitchen quickly became a fan favorite amongst American Muay Thai fans. Always looking to push women’s Muay Thai to the forefront, Kitchen has been an ambassador of the sport for years. As beautiful as she is deadly, she will be looking to not only continue to impress her fans but take home the win against her fellow UK native.

Looking to make her name on the American Muay Thai scene, Amanda Kelly is ready to take advantage of her opportunity. Facing a legend in Muay Thai like Julie Kitchen paired up with the opportunity to gain new fans we should expect nothing but a tremendous effort from Kelly as she takes on “The Queen of Muaythai”.
