Results and Recap: Friday Nights Season Finale 2012

Friday Night Fights (@FridaysFights) held their season finale last night in New York and fans were in for a treat. Despite the event losing a fight between Eric Utsch and Alex Berrios in the days leading up to the event. Jose Palacios (@JEPalacios) vs. Chris Kwiatkowski served as the night’s main event.

Palacios went to work early on Kwiatkowski’s lead leg with kicks and it paid off. It was evident as the fight went into the later rounds that the continuous leg kicks affected Kwiatkowski. Despite taking damage to his leg Kwiatkowski continued to search for an opening until the final bell, but it was clear Palacios was in control. Kwiatkowski searched for an opening to land his right hand and on occasion it connected, but Palacios absorbed it and continued to fire back with punches of his own or leg kicks. It was a great win for Palacios after not having fought since February of this year. With the victory Palacios wins the WKA North American Welterweight Championship.

In the night’s co-main event Villi Bello played spoiler to Josh Fitzsimmons' pro debut. Fitzsimmons had a spectacular amateur career and looked to have a successful pro debut, but Bello had other plans. Bello immediately came out firing hard leg kicks and punches. Fitzsimmons, however, looked to press forward and let his hands go something that Bello welcomed. Bello landed a right hand that put Fitzsimmons on the mat for a standing eight count. In the second frame Bello continued to work the leg kicks and again scored a knockdown after connecting with a right hand on Fitzsimmons. Bello continued to move forward throwing strikes with bad intentions as he continued to take control of the fight. The third and final round saw both men trade shots and in the end Villi Bello was awarded a unanimous decision victory.
