IFS Showdown Results 7-31-2010

The IFS Showdown took place and four more fighters advanced to the semi-finals in their 16-man Muay Thai tournament. Sevak Ohanjanian, Jason Gonzales, Andrew Santhivong, and Raymond Mendiaz will all compete to earn their spot in the Final and potentially be crowned the tournament champion.

3. Antonio Juan defeats Victor Jung by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, and 28-29)

4. Sevak Ohanjanian defeats Edgar Islas by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, and 29-28)

5. Marcos Guevara defeats Carlos Otiniano by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-26, and 30-26)

6. Jason Gonzales defeats Robert Holguin by TKO at 0:49 of the 2nd round

7. Felipe Andalla defeats Borin Khoun by KO at 1:53 of the 3rd round

8. Andrew Santhivong defeats Edwin Avila by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 1:17 of the 2nd round

9. Jody Carter defeats Coleman Hyer by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 0:46 of the 1st round

10. Isreal Flores defeats Charles Cha by TKO at 0:40 of the 2nd round

11. Brian Bruns defeats Ramon Moreno by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, and 28-29)

12. Nick Kosovich defeats Max Quintero by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, and 28-29)

Edgar Islas: From Watching to Fighting

Millions of people love to watch two guys beat each other up, about half of the people who love to watch any type of combat sport think they can do it, then about a quarter of the original millions of people actually try it, and the number that actually succeed is minuscule.

Edgar Islas started training because he loved to watch combat sports and decided to give it ago, so far so good. Edgar, is part of Team Oyama, where along with pro fighters such as Shane Del Rosario, Bao Quach, Romie Adanza, Giva Santana, and Jared Lara they are guided by Colin Oayama.

Islas now prepares to compete in the second round of the International Fight Showdown's 16-man tournament which will take place on July 31st at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel in Buena Park, CA. Like with any other fight the training is grueling and hard but it's going good.

"Training has been going great. A couple minor injuries here and there, but nothing major." said Islas.

Islas will be facing tough Armenian fighter Sevak Ohanjanian, and he knows he has to be prepared for anything, especially since he doesn't have much information on his opponent.

"I don't know much about my opponent I only know his first name is Sevak, and that he is real good." Islas said. "I'm going into this fight like any other one, I need to stay focused and listen to my corner."

Islas knows that the result will be based solely on his in ring performance, and although he has a great coach in Colin Oyama and his preparation is excellent it's up to him to show this in the ring. Simply put by Islas, "at the end of fight the best fighter will have their hand raised."

Islas knows it's going to be hard work to win this tournament, he doesn't get ahead of himself or discredit anyone. Islas knows everyone else is just as hungry as he is.

"I think anyone still left in the competition has a chance to win it all or else they wouldn't be here." said Islas.

Winning the tournament would be a great accomplishment for Islas who looks to continue his Muay Thai career as well as making his MMA debut.

The biggest challenge Islas faces when getting ready for competition?

"The biggiest challenge I face preparing for a fight is all the time away from my wife and daughter." said Islas.

Come Saturday July 31st Islas will get make sure the sacrificed time away from his wife and daughter has paid off. He doesn't consider himself a favorite, but he knows he has a chance at winning the tournament.

Meet and Greet with IFS Fighters

Port Restaurant and Bar will be hosting a meet and greet with IFS fighters and ring girls. Entry is free for those with tickets to the IFS Show on July 31, 2010.

The meet and greet will be July 29, 2010 at 7 P.M. and there will specials as part of the IFS Muay Thai quarter finals that will occur on July 31, 2010.

Fighters competing July 31 include Andrew Santivant, Edgar Islas, Raymond Mendiaz, Sarayan Corona, Jason Gonzalez, Jimmy Hendrickson, Savak Ohanjanian, and Sinahy Luna.

One will eventually be crowned the winner of the IFS 16 man Muay Thai tournament.

IFS Muay Thai Quarter Finals July 31, 2010

The quarter finals for the IFS Muay Thai 16 man tournament will take place July 31 at the Knott's Berry Farm Resort Hotel in Buena Park, CA.

The eight competitors remaining in the tournament are Andrew Santivant, Edgar Islas, Raymond Mendiaz, Sarayan Corona, Jason Gonzalez, Jimmy Hendrickson, Savak Ohanjanian, and Sinahy Luna.

The quarter final winners will then be matched up again on August 28, 2010 for the semi-finals, and then the final two remaining fighters will fight for the tournament championship on October 23, 2010.
