Jose Palacios talks upcoming fight with Joey Pagliuso

Jose Palacios was kind enough to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority regarding his upcoming bout with Joey Pagliuso, as well as his future plans.

MTA: You have an upcoming fight with Joey Pagliuso, how has your training for the fight been going?

Jose: My training has been hard! It's been one of the best camps I've had in a long time. I have a new corner at Unlimited MMA and they have been good to me here.

MTA: How much do you know about Joey's style, and is there anything you feel you have to be careful with when fighting him?

Jose: What I know about Joey is that he is a strong fighter, aggressive and loves to hit hard. Every opponent that I face is dangerous and there is always something I have to look for. I have to be careful of not getting him... we are in a fight after all. :)

MTA: You lost a close split decision to Coke Chunhawat at War of the Heroes 8, can you give us your thoughts on that fight? Do you think it was the right decision by the judges?

Jose: Coke, Coke, Coke, that was a fun fight. My first fight in long time and I enjoyed it. He was a strong fighter, I can see why he is a Champion, I thought it was very close, it depends on what you are looking for. If you're looking at who landed the most punches, hands down, it was me. If you're looking at the cleaner leg kicks it was him... even then, I don't know... It was a close fight and it is what it is. I would love to try again.

MTA: As far as the fight with Joey goes, can you give us a prediction as to the result?

Jose: I see it as a fight, meaning a war.. and I am ready for a war. In my country we have this saying, "Perro que ladra, no muerde.." Look it up. That's all. :)

Fore those that don't speak Spanish, "Perro que ladra, no muerde" means "dog that barks, doesn't bite."

MTA: You train with Cung Le, and he is known for his flashy style, with his spinning kicks, and side kicks. Do you feel since you train under him people expect to see that from you all the time, and does it add any pressure?

Jose: I was with Cung for a very long time, and he's way of fighting can only be done by him. People can be similar, but that's the way he does what he does, because of that, I don't feel any pressure. People do expect me to do moves like his, but I have a few of moves of my own.

MTA: You also compete in MMA, is there any preference for you between competing in MMA or Muay Thai?

Jose: I love kickboxing. MMA is a different beast, a beast I respect very much. I enjoy competition, so I will be stepping in there again.

MTA: As far as your career in Muay Thai goes, what are you looking to accomplish, and is a permanent move to MMA in the cards?

Jose: I'm looking to be remembered and recognized as being a great fighter. I want to look back when I'm old and say "yes, that's your grandpops right there".
