Lincroft, New Jersey -- The Warriors Cup XII was the first full rules Muay Thai event in the state of New Jersey. Promoter Chris Tran made sure to make it a memorable night as he brought world ranked U.K. fighter Liam “The Hitman” Harrison to face Philadelphia’s Justin “The Purple People Eater” Greskiewicz in the night’s main event for the WBC Muay Thai international welterweight title.
From the start of the fight it was clear as to why Harrison was the heavy favorite coming into the fight. Greskiewicz was a game opponent early on, but Harrison worked behind some powerful leg kicks that visibly affected Greskiewicz. A jumping knee by Greskiewicz to the body of Harrison would come back and play a vital role in the fight. The second round was all Harrison as he began to pick Greskiewicz apart with hand combinations as well as continuing his assault with leg kicks. Greskiewicz tried to land the jumping knee once again at the end of the second round and Harrison connected with a perfectly timed left hook that put Greskiewicz down. It was clear that Greskiewicz was hurt as he was on wobbly legs and the fight was stopped. The official end came at the three-minute mark of the second round. With the victory Liam Harrison became the new WBC Muay Thai international welterweight champion.
In the night’s co-main event Rami Ibrahim and Mark DeLuca both came out looking to put on a good show. DeLuca attacked with some nice combinations, but Ibrahim’s leg kicks were the deciding factor in the fight. DeLuca despite showing extreme toughness was at the receiving end of some well placed leg kicks by Ibrahim and in the later rounds of the fight it was clearly beginning to affect him. Despite being cut a bloody Mark DeLuca continued to press forward and clinch with Ibrahim, but he was unable to capitalize as Ibrahim was effectively able to maneuver in the clinch as well as continue to land some solid leg kicks. In the end the judges awarded Ibrahim a unanimous decision.
In the night’s second pro fight Marcus Fis her and Brett Hlavacek fought a very close fight. The first few rounds were back and forth in the clinch. The big difference came in the fourth round when Hlavacek was able to really open up with knees to the body of Fisher in the clinch, nine consecutive knees connected as Fisher seemed a bit fatigued. The fifth round was again tightly contested and the fight went to the judge’s scorecards. One judge ruled it a draw while the other two judges saw it in favor of Hlavacek as he was awarded a majority decision.
The first full rules Muay Thai bout ever held in the state of New Jersey featured Ognjen Topic taking on Tony Manoharan. The pair had previously met as amateurs in about which Topic won. Both fighters came out calm and collected, picking their shots. Topic pressed forward, but Manoharan looked comfortable counter fighting. Manoharan seemed to be getting the better of Topic early on in the fight, but in the third round Topic turned things up. He connected with some solid punches followed by some strong knees to the body that dropped Manoharan. After the referee’s standing eight count Topic wobbled Manoharan with some well-placed knees. Topic continued to try and finish the fight and as the round was coming to an end he dropped Manoharan with an elbow, which opened up a cut above the right eye of Manoharan. The doctor was called to check on the cut, deciding Manoharan wouldn’t continue despite his objection. The fight was stopped at the end of the third round as Ognjen Topic wins the first ever full rules Muay Thai fight in the state of New Jersey.
