Joe Davidson talks upcoming fight with Jack Thames and his return to Muay Thai

Last year Joe Davidson announced his retirement from Muay Thai, but he is now ready to step back into the ring. On September 24th he will be facing Jack Thames at Pala Casino under the WCK Muay Thai banner. Joe took some time to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about his upcoming return to the ring.

MTA: Late last year you announced your retirement, but now you have decided to come back. Why the change of heart?

Joe: I had too many distractions before. when you end up with a house a wife two very small children that I got up with every morning, car payments, bills and a full time job, fighting for me got put on the back burner. That's never been how I approached my fighting career. It lead to great deal of stress and anxiety for me. I fight because I love it that's all. What's different now is I'm able to put the time in that I need. I'm able to work less and have people to help me take care of my kids while I'm training. I've gone to great extents to make sure I'm physically and mentally ready for every challenge in front of me.

MTA: While you were retired did you still train and remain active?

Joe: Yes I did. I knew I would be back so I used my time to push myself and find the right people to train me but also to teach me.

MTA: You last competed a year and a half ago, are you worried about any ring rust?

Joe: No I'm not worried about ring rust too much. I think it will only be an issue if I let it. I've always been relaxed in the ring so I believe my experience will take over

MTA: You are fighting Jack Thames on Sept 24th, how familiar are you with Jack?

Joe: I've known jack for a long time. We've been on the same circuit for a long time, also we have both been watching each other fight for years.

MTA: Anything that Jack brings to the fight that you feel might present an issue for you?

Joe: Jack isn't your typical Muay Thai fighter. He has his own style and is very dangerous. He's always looking to finish the fight early.

MTA: What is your prediction for the fight?

Joe: I dont do predictions there was only one Ali.

MTA: Is your return a one and done deal or do you want to continue to compete?

Joe: Yes I will continue. I still have many goals I wish to achieve in Muay Thai, especially now with Muay Thai growing in America at such an amazing rate. I'm fortunate enough to still be able to compete and be apart of the growth of American Thai boxing

MTA: Do you have any other fights lined up currently or are you on wait and see type of mode?

Joe: As of right now I dont have anything planed yet. Hopefully that will change after this fight.
