PKP "Workd Stand Off 5" Fight Breakdown: Matt Embree vs. Sean Kearney

PKP (Push Kick Promotions) "World Stand Off 5" takes place this Saturday at the Tropicana in Las Vegas and there are some interesting match ups on the fight card. Among them are Simon Marcus vs. Chidi Njokuani, Cyrus Washington vs. Moses Sangtiennoi, and Matt Embree vs. Sean Kearney. The fight were going to be breaking down here is Embree vs. Kearney. This bout will determine who the best 140lb fighter in Canada is.

Matt Embree vs. Sean Kearney

This should be a very technical fight as both fighters have the fundamentals down pat. Taking advantage of the slightest error should be the determining factor for the winner in this bout.

Embree will give up a height and reach advantage to Kearney and needs to try to get inside on Kearney. Even if he is able to get inside his clinch might not be as effective as usual because of the height differential. One under rated aspect of Embree's game is his hands, and that might be the key difference for Embree. If he can get inside and work the body with nice combinations it could pay off.

Another thing Embree needs to do is start fast. He has been known as a slow starter but with this fight being only three rounds he can't wait to pick up the pace. His fight at PKP "World Stand Off 4" against Ben Yelle was also a three round fight and he did a nice job picking up the pace early. With only three rounds to work every round will be crucial.

Kearney has shown he has what it takes to make fights competitive, however, he needs to take advantage of his height and reach. Kearney needs to keep Embree at the end of his punches and not let him get inside and if Embree does get inside he has a solid clinch game and should use his height to get the necessary leverage to control the action in the clinch.

Kearney's jab needs to be fully utilized to keep Embree from trying to set anything up. Kearney's issues in his two recent losses, both to Malaipet, is that he didn't utilize his reach advantage. Pumping that jab, which he can then use to set up other attacks could be the one advantage that Kearney needs to win this bout. It can be used defensively and offensively.

This will definitely be and interesting bout to see who can out maneuver who.
