PKP (Push Kick Promotions) "World Stand Off 5" goes down this weekend at the Tropicana in Las Vegas. In the night's main event the worlds number one ranked light heavyweight Simon Marcus takes on Chidi Njokuani. Marcus will look to keep his perfect record of 34-0 intact, while Njokuani will be looking to shock the world and knock Marcus of his throne.
It should be an exciting fight with a lot at stake for both fighters. A loss for Marcus is almost unfathomable, and a win for Njokuani bumps him to the top of the mountain. Let us know what you think about our fight breakdown.
Simon Marcus vs. Chidi Njokuani
Marcus is known for his brutal clinch work and that will be the key for him again. He is like a vice when he gets a hold of his opponents in the clinch, and once he gets there you can expect elbows and knees to start to fly. Njokuani will have a height and reach advantage so getting on the inside will be crucial for Marcus. Standing on the outside and trading is what could cost Marcus his perfect record. If there is any weakness in Marcus game it would be his movement. He moves in a straight line and doesn't use many angles. This opens him up to take some damage, but normally when he is able to get inside it's game over for his opponents. A perfect example of this was his fight against Sadibou Sy. For three rounds Sy used great foot work to move around Marcus and avoid his clinch, but in the third round Marcus finally got inside and knocked him out with elbows.
Marcus has also been known to start slow at times and pick the pace up with each round, he has a tremendous gas tank and does not stop pushing the pace. That would be a key advantage in a five round fight, but with this fight only being three rounds Marcus needs to make sure he goes on the attack immediately. Sitting back waiting to get inside could allow Njokuani to rack up a lead on the score cards.
For Njokuani the formula is simple, keep Marcus at bay with his length. He needs to use good movement to keep Marcus from backing him into a corner and clinching. Whenever Marcus tries to close the gap Njokuani needs to fire his jab and make sure he make Marcus pay if he doesn't approach him cautiously.
If Marcus is able to get in the clinch then Njokuani needs to get out immediately. Every second he spends in the clinch is like playing with fire and eventually he will get burned. Another thing Njokuani needs to be careful with is getting his kicks caught by Marcus. If Marcus can grab a hold of Njokuani's leg you can expect a vicious sweep or dump to follow.
Njokuani has all the tools to pull of the upset, but as always that is easier said than done. Marcus is one of the sports hardest and most determined fighters and we should expect an all out war between these two fighters.
simon was right: chidi IS a bitch.
