Confirmed this week as a late addition to the May 14 Lion Fight Promotions event "Battle in the Desert 2" is a fight between Cyrus Washington and Cosmo Alexandre. Muay Thai Authority was able to catch up with Cyrus and find out his thoughts on his upcoming fight with world ranked Cosmo Alexandre.
MTA: You have a big fight coming up on May 14th with Cosmo Alexandre. Are there any advantages you feel you will have against him when you guys fight?
Cyrus: When we fight I feel I have some other techniques that he might not have seen, but it's obvious he has the better resume ect.
MTA: You have lived and competed in Thailand the last couple of years, and now your back in the U.S. for the time being. Where will your training be taking place and with who?
MTA: You have lived and competed in Thailand the last couple of years, and now your back in the U.S. for the time being. Where will your training be taking place and with who?
Cyrus: I have started my training at Defend Michigan with Paul Bowers coach of Rich Franklin, Jorge Gurgel, and Zoila Frausto. In less than 1 week I will be moving to Illinois to train with Ricardo Perez of Team Toro Janjira for 4 weeks.
MTA: Is there anything in Cosmo's arsenal you feel you have to worry about?
MTA: Is there anything in Cosmo's arsenal you feel you have to worry about?
Cyrus: He is a great fighter I will be ready for everything. He's tall as well.
MTA: What is your prediction for the fight with Cosmo?
MTA: What is your prediction for the fight with Cosmo?
Cyrus: I have no prediction I will fight at my best as will he and let nature take it's course, as I always do.
MTA: Do you plan on returning back to Thailand or will you stay here in the states for a while after the fight?
MTA: Do you plan on returning back to Thailand or will you stay here in the states for a while after the fight?
Cyrus: I will be returning to Thailand this year I have bare knuckle fights in Myanmar and Sukothai and will be training and teaching at Phuket Top Team. I don't know when I will be returning exactly as of now I have been added to Roger Huerta's fight camp for his next fight, and will be heading out to South Africa to Phoenix Muaythai.
MTA: Bare knuckle fights, some people might think you are crazy. Is there a big difference fighting in bare knuckle fights as opposed to wearing gloves?
Cyrus: As far as peoples opinions of it being crazy, to each it's own, because maybe it is crazy for them but for me it's only fighting my sport, my career. This is a big part of how I have and will continue to make my mark in the world. When I fight I make sure my hands are wrapped a bit more than usual than just fight.
MTA: Anyone in the states you would like to fight?
MTA: Anyone in the states you would like to fight?
Cyrus: There's not really anyone particular that I would want to fight, wait when I first turned pro I lost a decision to Chase Green of Janjira so maybe him, but I would like to fight for some stateside titles yes!
MTA: You have had your critics that have said when you enter fights your are coming in bigger than some of your opponents, what is your response to those critics?
MTA: You have had your critics that have said when you enter fights your are coming in bigger than some of your opponents, what is your response to those critics?
Cyrus: Well my response to that is after weigh-in's I will put on 5-6 KG's (11-13lbs) as I am re hydrated, and if a fighter agrees to fight me at a catch weight than it was their choice. Also no one says anything about K-1 all the different weights. In Phuket Thailand there is the PK-1 and a lot of the fights are at a catch weight or agreed upon ect.
MTA: You have had your share of highlight reel finishes, what are the odds we get to see another one on May 14th?
MTA: You have had your share of highlight reel finishes, what are the odds we get to see another one on May 14th?
Cyrus: LOL I never predict anything,to bad I'm not like Ali. We'll see what happens.
MTA: When you have landed those incredible spinning heel kicks and so forth, were they planned or just something you decided to throw in the last second?
MTA: When you have landed those incredible spinning heel kicks and so forth, were they planned or just something you decided to throw in the last second?
Cyrus: As with the spinning kicks I take what I see open and just explode is all. Sometimes they are sort of setup, but mostly I see an opening or a way to make an opening and kick.
MTA: Anything you want to say to your fans, other fighters, or anyone in general?
MTA: Anything you want to say to your fans, other fighters, or anyone in general?
