New York -- Friday Night Fights Muay Thai took place last night at The Hall at St. Paul’s in New York. The night’s main event featured a bout between Turan Hasanov and Villi Bello. The bout was non-stop action from start to finish; Hasanov came out aggressive in the first round. He used solid hand combinations followed up by leg kicks to score. Hasanov’s leg kicks set the pace for the fight as they landed throughout. Bello was willing to take the punishment from Hasanov’s leg kicks and get inside and exchange with Hasanov, resulting in the crowd roaring over the excitement. The fight went the distance and despite Bello being a game opponent the fight awarded to Hasanov by unanimous decision.
Emily Bearden and Denise Jacobs met in a female pro bout and it was all Bearden the entire fight. Bearden worked a great push kick to kick Jacobs at bay as she looked to clinch. A solid right hand from Bearded scored a standing eight count. Jacobs looks to turn things around in the fifth but it was too little too late. The knockdown and the previous four rounds clearly created to large of a deficit for her to catch up. The judges awarded Bearden the win by unanimous decision.

The night’s first pro bout featured Kevin Horowitz and Mervin Rodriguez. Horowitz looked to land several flashy leg kicks also connecting with very solid leg kicks. Rodriguez clearly preferred to fight in the clinch, but was unable to successfully tie up Horowitz. The judges scored the fight for Horowitz by unanimous decision.
In a notable amateur bout, Friday Night Fights “8-to-1” tournament winner Josh Fitzsimmons and tournament competitor Phil LeGrand tangled in tight knit fight. Fitzsimmons won the tournament after fighting through three exciting fights in one night, LeGrand faced tournament finalist, Troy Sheridan in the first round and was eliminated by a decision from the judges. The loss was LeGrand’s only one in his amateur career.
LeGrand made sure to pick his shots against Fitzsimmons, mixing it in with some excellent foot work. Fitzsimmons was forced to aggressively go after LeGrand, but his footwork proved to be a serious issue as it became difficult for him to land his strikes. Despite Fitzsimmons seemingly the more technical fighter, LeGrand’s pop and move style was enough to sway the judges who awarded him a split decision win.
