Results and Recap: The Warriors Cup XIII

The Warriors Cup XIII took place in Lincroft, New Jersey and it certainly faced some challenges. The main event between Justin Greskiewicz and Gabriel Varga was cancelled with less than two days left before the event due to an injury Greskiewicz sustained. As they say though, "the show must go on".

In the night's first pro fight Ognjen Topic and Anthony Demaio faced off. The bout started off slow with the fighters feeling each other out through most of the first round. In the second round Topic started to pick the pace up a bit. Topic was able to connect with an elbow and cut Demaio on the inside of his right eye. With blood flowing from the cut the referee called for time so that the cut could be checked. The ringside doctor called a stop to the bout after inspecting the cut. With the win North Jersey Muay Thai's Ognjen Topic improves is professional record to 3-2.

In the nights only other pro bout, James "B-52" Smith and Ryan Murray went toe-to-toe in a WBC Muay Thai national super cruiserweight title fight. The first round started off with both fighters feeling each other out, but as the midway point of the round hit, Smith turned up the action. He swarmed Murray with a flurry of punches and knees, it was clear Murray was in trouble and the referee stepped in and gave him a standing eight count as several strikes by Smith went unanswered. In the second round the tide turned as it seemed Smith was fatigued. Murray pushed the pace and worked being some solid boxing which he followed up with low kicks. When the second round ended it was clear Murray had fought his way back into the fight, but there would be no third round as the bout was stopped by the doctor after Smith suffered a torn left bicep. With the win Ryan Murray wins the vacant WBC Muay Thai national super cruiserweight title.

  1. Great display of Muay Thai from Topic. Very well versed in elbows...The fight didn't last as long as I would have wanted to but we the newly founded inclusion of Elbows in NJ, fighters will now have to change their game plan to include a strong elbow game as well as a stong defense vs them. Fighters like Topic will definitely help the east coast gain some ground vs it's sister coast
