Friday Night Fights: Palacios vs. Greskiewicz Results

Friday Night Fights took place last night at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York, NY with Jose Palacios and Justin Greskiewicz serving as the main event. Palacios came out looking good as he was firing his strikes with accuracy, but as is with the art of eight limbs things can end in a split second. A quick sneaky elbow by Greskiewicz connected and opened up a decent size gash on the eyebrow of Palacios. The referee stopped the fight in the first round awarding Greskiewicz the (T)KO victory. 

In other action Eddie Martinez picked up a win over Villi Bello. Coming into the fight Bello had won his last two fights and was looking to make it three consecutive wins, but Martinez would not allow that to happen. Bello couldn't get into any kind of rhythm and get things flowing, Martinez on the other hand was pick his shots and control the fight. In the end the decision was awarded to Martinez.

Results: Friday Night Fights "Bello vs. Robinson"

Friday Night Fights "Bello vs. Robinson" took place this past Friday and in the main event Villi Bello defeated Deshawn Robinson by unanimous decision. Known for his heavy hands Robinson look strong in the first round, but Bello weathered the storm he began to stalk Robinson who looked to create distance but was unable too. Bellow has now won back to back fights and improves to 7-3 as a pro. Robinson seemed like he was poised to have a break out year in 2013, but instead has now dropped 3 consecutive fights. 

In other pro action Marc Seno defeated Matthew McCusker by unanimous decision and Stephane Smarth defeated Randy Fortier by unanimous decision.

Friday Night Fights "Castrejon vs. Lemjerdine" results, the first full rules Muay Thai event in New York

Full rules Muay Thai has come to New York. Friday Night Fights became the first promotion to host a full rules event in New York last night and the fights did not disappoint. In the night’s main event Las Vegas native Anthony Castrejon made quick work of Mohammed Lemjerdine. A head kick 47 seconds into the first round ended the bout. It was an impressive knockout for Castrejon, and a surprise to many. Lemjerdine is a highly touted fighter from Connecticut, but Castrejon used some nice foot work and timing to land the fight ending kick.

In the night’s co-main event Villi Bello and Turan Hasanov met in a re-match of their 2011 barn burner. In the first encounter Hasanov took home a judge’s decision, but this time around it wouldn’t go the distance. In the fourth round Bello scored a (T)KO victory due to leg kicks over Hasanov to event things up between them at one a piece.

In the first full rules Muay Thai fight in New York Elijah Clarke scored a KO victory over Gil Pinheiro, and it couldn’t have come in a more appropriate way. In the fourth round Clarke landed some elbows and a knee to end the bout and get the win in his pro debut.

Full rules Muay Thai comes to New York for the first time at this weekend's Friday Night Fights event

Friday Night Fights April 5th event at The Broad Street Ballroom in New York is set to feature two of America's rising talents in its main event. Anthony Castrejon of Las Vegas and Mohammed Lemjerdine of Connecticut will fight in what can easily be looked at as west vs. east match up. In the co-main event a re-match between Turan Hasanov and Villi Bello is sure to get fans on their feet, especially if it anything reminiscent to their first encounter in late 2011. What should really get fans in attendance excited is that the Friday Night Fights event on April 5th will feature full rules Muay Thai for the first time in the state of New York.

Full rules Muay Thai was set to come to New York in early 2012, but for one reason or another it was postponed. Now it seems the time is right and for fans that have been clamoring for the use of elbows in the state of New York, your wish is about to come true.

"Full Rules has a great deal of support from the fighters, traditionalists and the purists which are a very important segment of our supporters. Friday Night Fights has been at the forefront of the sport since 1997 and we're glad to be able add this dimension of the sport to New York fans" Said FNF President, Justin Blair. “This is a big step for Muay Thai in New York as no one will be able to complain about its authenticity any longer.”

One thing is for certain, no one will be able to say they don’t fight real Muay Thai in New York again.

Anthony Castrejon vs. Mohammed Lemjerdine set as main event for Friday Night Fights April 5 event

Friday Night Fights has announced that Mohammed Lemjerdine and Anthony Castrejon will fight in the main event of their April 5th event at The Broad Street Ballroom in New York. In the night's co-main event Villi Bello and Turan Hasanov will meet in a re-match of their 2011 bout.

Lemjerdine was last in action this past September when he defeated Tony Manoharan by unanimous decision under the Friday Night Fights banner. He was schedule to fight Rami Ibrhaim this past February, but an injury to Ibrahim cancelled the bout.

Castrejon most recently competed under the Lion Fight banner at Lion Fight 7. He dropped a WBC Muay Thai national title fight to Andy Singh by unanimous decision. Before his lost to Singh Castrejon had won the first three bouts of his professional career.

Mohammed Lemjerdine and Anthony Castrejon set to for a collision course  

NEW YORK (Mar. 6, 2013) – FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS, North America’s longest running Muay Thai promotion will return on April 5, 2013, to The Broad Street Ballroom in Manhattan, New York. The night’s main event will feature a fight between two of America’s best young talents as Mohammed Lemjerdine (4-1) of West Haven, Connecticut will take on Anthony “Pretty Boy” Castrejon (3-1) of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mohammed Lemjerdine is known for his solid technique and as a pro holds a victory over the highly touted Ognjen Topic. Already considered one of the East Coast’s best fighters, the addition of Castrejon’s name to his resume would help cement his name as one of the best on a national level.

Anthony Castrejon is a highly touted young gun from out west. Known for his exciting and aggressive fight style, he will be making his East Coast debut against one of the East Coast’s finest. East Coast fans won’t be disappointed by Castrejon’s style and are in for a treat.

In the co-main event Villi Bello (5-2) and Turan Hasanov (5-3) will square off in a re-match of their 2011 barn burner. The last time these two fighters met the crowd went crazy as they slugged it out for five hard fought rounds. Hasanov walked away with a decision victory on that night, but the fans were the real winners. Now a year and a half later it’s time for the re-match and if it is anything like the first bout, the fans will once again walk away victorious.

Villi Bello and Turan Hasanov were set to fight in a re-match of their 2011 barn burner, but the fight will not be happening tonight. Bello fell ill in the recent days with flu like symptoms and can not compete tonight. Promoted to the main event is a fight between Matt McCusker and Chris Mauceri.

McCusker and Muceri both have exciting styles which should make for an exciting match up.

Villi Bello talks re-match with Turan Hasanov at this weekend's Friday Night Fights event

Villi Bello will headline this weekend’s Friday Night Fights event. Bello will be looking to avenge his 2011 loss to Turan Hasanov. In the 2011 Friday Night Fights Season Finale, Bello and Hasanov were involved in an action packed fight that saw Hasanov take a decision victory. Originally scheduled to fight Preston Baptiste, Bello instead now has a change for revenge against Hasanov. Bello was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority.

MTA: You were training for Preston Baptiste and he pulled out. Turan Hasanov stepped in to replace him. What were you thinking when you found out Turan was replacing Preston?

Villi: Well is unfortunate that Preston had to pull out do to unclear circumstances because I was really looking forward to fight him. The moment I heard about Turan taking the fight I got excited because I thought I beat him last time but the judges didn’t see it that way and it is always exiting to fight a tough guy like Turan.

MTA: As far as training goes does anything change now that your opponent changed, especially on such short notice?

Villi: Well on the technical aspect there will be some adjustments due to the fact that Preston is more traditional with his Muay Thai than Turan and also taller. But nothing special, Turan doesn’t really adjust or has evolved much since I fought him last time so I have an idea of what to expect.

MTA: You thought you won last time but the judges didn’t agree. What do you think you need to do to make sure the judges see it in your favor if it goes the distance again?

Villi: Well when I fought him last time it was my second pro fight so I wasn’t as experienced and even though Turan didn’t land many clear shots I allowed him to hit my arms when blocking. This time I will not try to make contact or make less contact with my body as possible.

MTA: How do you think you have evolved as a fighter form the first fight until now?

Villi: I feel that since the last fight with him I’ve gotten smarter, faster, stronger, and more experienced due to the high level of opponents I have faced since then. I work super hard to improve as much as I can in every aspect of my game on every single training session.

MTA: Prediction for this fight?

Villi: A great match to see and appreciate. Won’t give more of a prediction, come and watch to find out what happens.

MTA: Thank you for your time Villi. Any words for your supporters?

Villi Bello vs. Turan Hasanov set as new main event for this weekend's Friday Night Fights event

This weekend’s Friday Night Fights event was set to feature Rami Ibrahim vs. Mohammed Lemjerdine as their main event, but the bout will no longer be taking place after Ibrahim withdrew due to injury and a suitable replacement for Lemjerdine could not be found on short notice. The night’s main event will now feature a bout between Villi Bello and Turan Hasanov.

Bello was originally schedule to fight Preston Baptiste, but Baptiste withdrew from the bout last week. This now sets up a re-match between Bello and Hasanov. The pair previously fought in December of 2011, an exciting bout which Hasanov won by decision.

The other pro bout slated for this Friday’s event will feature Matt McCusker vs. Chris Mauceri. The event will take place at The Hall @ St. Pauls.

Troy Sheridan wins Battle of the Pros 8-man one night tournament in Brooklyn, NY

Battle of the Pros took place at the Renzo Gracie Academy yesterday in Brooklyn, NY. The event featured an 8-man one night pro tournament. When it was all said and done Troy Sheridan of Team Ultimate in Toronto, Canada walked away with the tournament victory.

In the opening round of the tournament Rafael Machado defeated Nate Chambers by unanimous decision, Troy Sheridan defeated Peter Kaljevic by unanimous decision, and Deshawn Robinson knocked out Turan Hasanov with a flying knee to advance to the semi-finals. Villi Bello and Mervin Rodriguez fought to a no contest after Rodriguez was hit in the groin and could not continue. Although it seemed that Rodriguez was actually hit in the stomach and not the groin the no contest ruling stood, but since Rodriguez could not continue Bello advanced in the tournament.

Opening round tournament bouts for Battle of the Pros tonight in Brooklyn, NY

The Battle of the Pros eight man one night tournament is happening tonight at the Renzo Gracie Academy in Brooklyn, NY. The tournament will feature some of the best up and coming talent in the United States and Canada. Some minor changes have occurred to the fight card since its initial announcement. No longer fighting are Phillip LeGrand and Flavio Brito, they are replaced by Mervin Rodriguez and Peter Kaljevic. 

The opening round tournament bouts are Rafael Machado vs. Nate Chambers, Villi Bello vs. Mervin Rodriguez, Peter Kaljevic vs. Troy Sheridan, and Turan Hasanov vs. Deshawn Robinson. When the night is over the winner of the tournament will have definitely bested a field of tough competitors to take the tournament crown. 8-man 154lb one night tournament set for September 13th at Renzo Gracie Academy in Brooklyn, New York

The Renzo Gracie Academy in Brooklyn, New York will be hosting an 8-man 154lb pro tournament on September 13th. The event dubbed “Battle of the Pros” will feature some up and coming talent in a one night tournament and will take place at the Renzo Gracie Fight Academy in Brooklyn, NY.

Competing in the tournament will be Troy Sheridan (Toronto, Canada), Villi Bello (Brooklyn, New York), Turan Hasanov (Brooklyn, New York), Nate Chambers (Las Vegas, Nevada), Deshawn Robinson (Roselle, New Jersey), Rafael Machado (Newark, New Jersey), Flavio Brito (Boston, Massachusetts), and Phillip LeGrand (Brooklyn, New York). It should prove to be an interesting night as it difficult to predict how one night tournaments will go. The winner will definitely be making a statement most of the fighters in the tournament are considered future pioneers for the North American Muay Thai scene.

Results and Recap: Friday Night Fights Muay Thai "Tarrant vs. Erosa"

It was a packed house last night at the Broad Street Ballroom for Friday Night Fights Muay Thai: Tarrant vs. Erosa. In the night’s main event North Jersey Muay Thai’s Liam Tarrant was making his professional debut against Mike Erosa. Early in the fight Erosa bloodied Tarrant’s nose, but despite the blood Tarrant looked sharp as he controlled the fight by moving forward and landing solid kicks while successfully countering with punches. In the end he was awarded a unanimous decision victory by the judges.

Mohammed Lemjerdine bounced back from his loss knockout loss to Jake Mainini this past January by knocking out Anthony DeMaio. Lemjerdine looked sharp with his combinations and was able to knockdown DeMaio twice in the opening round. In the second Lemjerdine continued to enforce his will eventually forcing the referee to stop the fight after a third knockdown.

Results and Recap: Friday Night Fights Muay Thai 2011 Season Finale

New York -- Friday Night Fights Muay Thai took place last night at The Hall at St. Paul’s in New York. The night’s main event featured a bout between Turan Hasanov and Villi Bello. The bout was non-stop action from start to finish; Hasanov came out aggressive in the first round. He used solid hand combinations followed up by leg kicks to score. Hasanov’s leg kicks set the pace for the fight as they landed throughout. Bello was willing to take the punishment from Hasanov’s leg kicks and get inside and exchange with Hasanov, resulting in the crowd roaring over the excitement. The fight went the distance and despite Bello being a game opponent the fight awarded to Hasanov by unanimous decision.

Emily Bearden and Denise Jacobs met in a female pro bout and it was all Bearden the entire fight. Bearden worked a great push kick to kick Jacobs at bay as she looked to clinch. A solid right hand from Bearded scored a standing eight count. Jacobs looks to turn things around in the fifth but it was too little too late. The knockdown and the previous four rounds clearly created to large of a deficit for her to catch up. The judges awarded Bearden the win by unanimous decision.

Results and Recap: Friday Night Fights Sept. 16th event

Friday Night Fights Muay Thai kicked off the first of back-to-back events at the Broad Street Ballroom with their September 16th fight card, which featured five pro fights. The night's main event action was a bout between New York's Chris Kwiatkowski and Canada's Joe Marchand Tipping. Both fighters seemed equally matched in the ring, Kwiatkowski used his hands to do most of his damage, while Tipping used his kicks to score. The fight started off slow as both fighters felt each other out. Kwiatkowski clearly knew his hands were going to be key for him as he scored with them through out the bout, utilizing his reach to land his jab. Tipping was the smaller fighter of the two as he moved up a weight class to face Kwiatkowski, but clearly had no problem mixing it up with Kwiatkowski as he successfully implemented body kicks and leg kicks throughout the fight. In addition to landing his jab Kwiatkowski followed up with body kicks that successfully landed and in the end took home a unanimous decision win.
