Ryan Madigan will be returning to action on August 18th against Dave Nielsen at WCK Muay Thai’s “Nakamoto vs. Kitchen” event in Pala, CA. Madigan has not competed since his (T)KO victory over Rigel Balsamico at Take-On Productions “Muay Thai at the Mecca”. Madigan will be looking to make one last run before he call it quits. The veteran has faced a few injuries that have slowed down his career, but he has stated he is once again healthy and ready to go.
MTA: Your next fight is against Dave Nielsen, how familiar are you with him?
Ryan: Not That familiar. I know he is a Coach at a gym in California and fought some good amateurs but not a lot of pro experience.
MTA: The fight came up on short notice, is it difficult getting back in shape on short notice for the fight or are you generally in shape year round?
Ryan: I try to stay in fairly good shape, but in particular I was training to Fight in Atlantic City at Bally’s Casino for Take On Productions but unfortunately they could not get me an opponent.
MTA: Can we get a prediction for your fight?
Ryan: He Seems like a tough guy so gonna be hard to get a KO, but I will get the win!!
MTA: When did your interest in the sport begin?
Ryan: I wanted to be a pro Kickboxer since 2nd grade. I guess movies like Kickboxer etc had a big influence. I had my first kickboxing fight in 1994, but full contact/ American rules was the only thing going on pretty much in Ohio. In 1997 I met and trained with Benny Urquidez and that was the closest I had come to Muay Thai. In 1998 I Found Danny Rawlings who had already fought Muay Thai and I began to train with him full time!
MTA: You have faced a few injuries yet you keep coming back, has the thought of calling it quits gone through your mind at all?
Ryan: Yes a few times especially after injuries, but I never had a good strength and conditioning program or diet and after finding my new gym Evolve and owner John Cook it really changed my mind and body!
MTA: What is your current goal in the sport, you have a few years left what ate you looking to accomplish?
Ryan: With a few years left I just want to retire with knowing in my mind that I did my best in the sport and hopefully get a title or 2 by the time I hang it up!
MTA: Not looking past Dave, but if you could pick someone for your next fight after him, who would it be and why?
Ryan: Exactly not looking past Dave but one of top 3 guys in North American rankings!! Preferably moving from 3 first.....the politics make it hard cause not as much money in kickboxing /Muay Thai so promoters have to have one guy that is local...a lot more money out of pocket to bring in 2 out of town guys.
MTA: Is there any part of your game that you feel will be a key factor in you getting the win?
Ryan: Keeping focus and my technique is pretty sharp again when I keep my focus!!
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Ryan: I want to thank all the fans...big thanks to my gym Evolve without my job sponsors and fans there I probably would not continue because money in this sport is not very good... big thanks to Intimidation, Mustard seed, Gary Bell, Joe Moffa, training partners Chris Lozano, Matt Brown, Taiwon Howard, John Cook (owner evolve), Coach Lorenzo Scott, and anyone I may have missed! Thanks to Dennis Warner and WCK for having me!
