Eric Utsch will be stepping back into the ring on December 7th when he faces Alex Berrios at the Friday Night Fights (@FridaysFights) season finale. Utsch has not competed since a controversial loss to Sean Hinds in June of this year. Utsch took some time from his training to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about his upcoming fight and future plans.
MTA: You are fighting Alex Berrios on December 7th for Friday Night Fights. How familiar are you with Alex?
Eric: I have followed his career a bit. I trained with him at his gym a few years ago. I am friends with his trainer Ray, and of course he fought Rigel a bit ago. I’m friends with Rigel.
MTA: Alex fights at 175 and is moving down to 165 for this fight, do you think the size will give him an advantage?
Eric: No I train with all different sizes people all the time so I think I will be fine. I was actually trying to make a transition towards 155 but this was the fight the promoter gave me.
MTA: You like to train a Dutch style and Alex is very traditional. What advantages do you feel you have because of this?
Eric: I dont know if it is an advantage or just a style difference, typically with Dutch there is no feeling out round. Lots of pressure and a faster pace. Not much time for toe tapping!
MTA: Your last fight didn't go your way; you lost a very controversial decision. Do you think that will affect how you come out and fight, maybe be a bit more aggressive towards trying to get a knockout to ensure it doesn’t go to the judges?
Eric: My trainer tells me how to fight so it’s up to him I just fight he makes the game plan but I am always looking for a KO! I think that our style is not common yet in the USA, Dutch kickboxing. So guys that think they understand it still have lots of trouble in the ring. But he is good at what he does so it’s going to be a tough fight!
MTA: Can we get a prediction for the fight?
Eric: I'm sure on December seventh that me and Alex will be punching kicking each other very hard.
MTA: Not looking past Alex but what are your goals for 2013?
Eric: Hoping to go back to Holland and fight this time. I hope the call come from K1-USA or Glory. I am going back to MMA for the $$ but not the love. I may also do some boxing to keep busy. I love to meet some cool people and have fun!
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Eric: Thanks for the support hoping for big things to kick off next year! Keep up with me on Facebook and hot chicks show your tits. lol Just joking. Not lol.
