Matt Embree and Coke Chunhawat will be fighting each other in a rubber match on February 25th at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 5”. Coke won their first meeting in Southern California by split decision and Embree took home the second fight in Canada by split decision as well.
Both are highly skilled fighters and the third bout is expected to be just as close as the first two. This time the stakes are raised as a WBC Muay Thai International Title will be on the line. Embree took some time from his busy training schedule to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about the upcoming bout with Coke.
MTA: It's time to break the tie with Coke Chunhawat, how is the training for this fight going so far?
Matt: Training is going very good. A few guys around the gym have fights coming up so the energy and pace of training is very high.
MTA: Seeing that you have fought Coke twice it is safe to say you are familiar with him in the ring. Does this make training a bit easier because there are thing you know you need to focus on?
Matt: Actually I think the training has to be a bit harder ha ha. We had 2 close fights before, so we both know what to expect. It just comes down to hard training and proper game planning.
MTA: How much do you plan on altering your style from the first two fights so that he won't know what to expect from you?
Matt: I have a few things to work on but it depends on the way that he fights too. I’ll try and make the proper adjustments as the fight goes on to do what I gotta do to win.
MTA: Do you expect this fight to be much different than the first two fights you had with Coke as far as strategy and style from him?
Matt: Yea I do for sure. I’m sure Cokes going to use a different strategy and so will I so it’s going to be different than the first 2.
MTA: You had been fighting at 140 your last few fights and now you’re going back down a few pounds. Is it any tougher making that weight after only cutting to 140 for your last few?
Matt: Not really, for me to make 140 it isn’t much of a weight cut so an extra 5 pounds isn’t a problem.
MTA: What is your prediction for the fight?
Matt: I’m going to win by any means.
MTA: Your training partner Simon Marcus is taking on Joe Schilling in the night's main event. What are your thoughts on that fight is Simon going to win?
Matt: I can’t wait to see it. I think it’s gonna be an exciting fight and everyone is going to see how skilled Simon is. Simon’s going to win.
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Matt: Thanks to all and everyone who has been there for me, with love and support. Fighting is my life, and I sacrifice everything to hopefully become one of the best one day, so anyone who is there and supports me has my gratitude.
