Yarborough vs. Valtellini headline March 9th Friday Night Fights Muay Thai event, Fisher vs. Horowitz set for undercard

Friday Night Fights Muay Thai has announced the main event for their March 9th event at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York. Joseph Valtellini will be taking on Las Vegas based fighter Shawn Yarborough

Valtellini has put together a perfect 5-0 record since turning pro, with none of his fights going the distance. Known not only for his aggression in the ring, but also his technique, Valtellini is one of the future stars of the North American Muay Thai scene. Notable wins includes stoppages of Dorian Price, Ben Case, Sean Hinds and most recently Alex Berrios. Valtellini seems to have one goal in mind and that is to earn everyone’s respect.

“I am really looking forward to making a statement in my match with Shawn. I am training harder and smarter than ever and feel ready for new challenges against notable opponents like Shawn” said Joseph. “A win against Shawn will allow me to get those larger fights and show that my name belongs as one of the top in North America. This fight is great for North American Muay Thai as it is allowing the top fighters from the East and West to compete, and showcase high quality Muay Thai.”

Yarborough is a former WBC Muay Thai USA National Champion, but has recently faced some struggles. He was last seen in action against Belarusian Pavel Turuk, whom he dropped a decision too this past July. Of Yarborough’s 4 professional losses, none have been by stoppage. Valtellini will have a tall task in front of him to keep his streak alive of not letting his opponents make to the final bell. Yarborough also has tripled the professional experience that Valtellini has.

The fight will be at a catchweight of 169lbs. Valtellini will be moving up from his usual fighting weight of 165lbs while Yarborough will be moving down from his usual fight weight of 175lbs. It will be interesting to see how Valtellini’s power will translate against the bigger Yarborough. Conversely, Yarborough is already known as a heavy hitter at 175lbs so Valtellini is likely to see punching power unlike what he’s experienced to date.

Friday Night Fights announced the co-main event last week for the March 9th event between Ognjen Topic and Josh Sampo. In addition Marcus Fisher vs. Kevin Horowitz will round out the pro portion of the event with a number of notable amateur bouts on the under card.
