Results and Recap: K-1 Los Angeles super fights

The K-1 super fights kicked off with Shuichi Wentz and Romie Adanza. Wentz took the fight on a few weeks notice after original opponent Andy Howson was injured and forced to withdraw from the bout. The pair had fought a little over a year ago in a close fight that went to Adanza by decision. There would be no decision this time, however, Adanza started off looking to let his hands go and 23 seconds into the round it was over. Wentz countered a right by Adanza with a right head kick that sent Adanza crashing to the canvas. It was a brutal knockout and a big win for Wentz.

Kang En and Travis Garlits went toe to toe for three rounds. En was more active and landed more strikes, but Garlits was able to absorb the punishment and answer back with a few strikes of his own. In the end the judges awarded the bout to En via unanimous decision.

Gabriel Varga looked like a machine against Lerdsila Chumpairtour. He kept moving forward from the start of the fight, Lerdsila tried to be elusive as usual but Varga did a good job of preventing it. In the first round a spinning back fist by Varga seemed to knock Lerdsila down but the referee did not give him a count. In the end Varga’s pressure and accuracy won him the fight by unanimous decision. He did a good job not straying from his game plan and putting the pressure on Lerdsila.

Jeremiah Metcalf and Markhaile Wedderburn met in what could simply be described as a brawl. Both fighters were winging while punches and letting the leather fly. In a brief clinch Metcalf connected with a solid knee to the body of Wedderburn that sent him down for good. The end came at 2:12 of the opening frame.
