K-1 qualifying event set for June 8th in Calgary, Canada

K-1 is set to return to North America. On June 8th K-1 will hold a qualifying event on June 8th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Four pro fights are slated to take place at the event including Shane Campbell vs. Justin Greskiewicz and Mukai Maromo vs. Joey Pagliuso.

Campbell will be fighting again for the first time since he defeated Sean McKinnon at the finals of the Journey Fight Series 160lb tournament. Campbell has been a force to be reckoned with since returning to Muay Thai and Kickboxing action last year after a three year absence. Greskiewicz will return to action for the first time since December 1st of 2012 when he suffered a loss to Salah Khalifa after a cut on his eye lid that required surgery ended the fight.

Pagliuso will look to build upon his recent savage knockout of Karlos Aldama at M-One “Reborn” when he takes on Maromo. Although he has been focused on MMA lately, Maromo is an accomplished striker that will provide a stiff test for Pagliuso.

The K-1 qualifier will take place at the Century Casino and in addition to the pro bouts it will feature a handful of amateur bouts.

Fight Card:
Shane Campbell vs. Justin Greskiewicz
Mukai Maromo vs. Joey Pagliuso
Markhaile Wedderburn vs. Ali Yousef
Benn Henry vs. Joseph George

Results and Recap: K-1 Los Angeles super fights

The K-1 super fights kicked off with Shuichi Wentz and Romie Adanza. Wentz took the fight on a few weeks notice after original opponent Andy Howson was injured and forced to withdraw from the bout. The pair had fought a little over a year ago in a close fight that went to Adanza by decision. There would be no decision this time, however, Adanza started off looking to let his hands go and 23 seconds into the round it was over. Wentz countered a right by Adanza with a right head kick that sent Adanza crashing to the canvas. It was a brutal knockout and a big win for Wentz.

Kang En and Travis Garlits went toe to toe for three rounds. En was more active and landed more strikes, but Garlits was able to absorb the punishment and answer back with a few strikes of his own. In the end the judges awarded the bout to En via unanimous decision.
