Matt Embree set to fight Nate Smandych at Journey Fight Series VIII, Sean Kearney forced to withdraw due to injury

Sean Kearney was set to fight a re-match with Nate Smandych (@TeamSmandych) at Journey Fight Series VIII this weekend in Calgary, Alberta, Canada but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury. Matt “Matics” Embree has stepped up to take the fight on one weeks notice. Promoter Trevor Smandych has confirmed that Smandych vs. Embree is now official.

Smandych will be looking to end a two fight skid after losing two back to back split decisions in extremely close fights against Sheldon Gaines and Sean Kearny. Embree will be looking to rebound after dropping a unanimous decision to Lerdsila Chumpairtour this past August.

Smandych vs. Embree along with the two semi-final bouts of the Journey Fight Series 160lb tournament should prove for an entertaining event.
