Lion Fight 11 will take place September 20th at the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, NV. One of the night’s most interesting bouts will feature American Kevin Ross taking on Japan’s Tetsuya Yamato.
Both fighters will be looking to rebound from losses in their previous fights. Ross dropped a unanimous decision Matt Embree at Lion Fight 10 and Yamato was stopped by Sagetdao Petpayathai due to a cut at M-One “Reborn”.
Kevin Ross (19-9) vs. Tetsuya Yamato (29-10-1)
This fight has the potential to be great, neither Ross nor Yamato are known for having boring fight style. Ross definitely pushes the pace more, but Yamato can be just aggressive.
Ross needs to come in and press the action from the opening bell and keep the pressure on Yamato throughout the fight. In his last fight against Embree, Ross played Embree’s game too long and it cost him. When he finally decided to put pressure on Embree he began to take over but it was too late and the decision went to Embree.
Ross needs to use his boxing, especially attacks to the body to soften up Yamato. For Ross it is all about volume, it is hard to fathom anyone who can keep his pace for five rounds. Yamato seems to have most success when he can dictate the pace and Ross needs to take that away from him. Heavy body shots from Ross will be beneficial in taking control of the bout while he continues to press forward.
Yamato needs to be ready to negate the pace that Ross can keep. If Ross comes out pushing the pace early and Yamato tries to match that pace the later rounds might not go well for him. Rather than play Ross’ game Yamato needs to slow the fight down and try to keep things close. He was having success in his last fight against Sagetdao by getting inside and working punches to the body and mixing in some nice elbows and punches to the head. Yamato needs to slow the fight and try to bully Ross in the clinch. The dirtier this fight gets in the clinch the more favorable things will look for Yamato.
Both fighters have solid boxing and if Yamato holds firm and can match the pace that Ross keeps this could turn into a slug fest. Expect to see some nice punching combinations from both in this bout.
