Results and Recap of Lion Fight Muay Thai 7: Walker KO's Schilling

by Faye Lucas

Lion Fight Muay Thai 7 (@LFPLasVegas) took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. It was a night of action packed fights and none more impressive than Eddie Walker’s (@EddieShowtime) main event win over Joe Schilling (@Cant_Stop_Crazy).

Walker was considered an under dog by many as he came into the fight with Schilling and early on in the fight it seemed that Joe Schilling’s prediction that Walker would not make it out of the first round would come true. Schilling went to work on Walker's lead leg early with kicks and was able to knock Walker down in the first round after connecting with an elbow. A calm and collected Walker got back to his feet and informed the referee he could continue. In the second round it seemed like Schilling was looking to finish what he started in the first round as he went to work on Walker's leg and again scored a knock down with an elbow from the clinch. Walker got up a bit slower than the first time and was bleeding from a cut that opened up, but he was once again able to answer the referee’s count. Schilling got more aggressive as he looked to finish the fight, but Walker began to let his hands go more and in a close exchange a short right hand from Walker connected on the jaw of Schilling and sent him crashing to the canvas. It was a vicious knock out by Walker that left the mainly pro Schilling crowd stunned. Easily the biggest win of Walker’s career.

Jeri Sitzes vs. Tiffany Van Soest and Coke Chunhawat vs. Adrian Morilla expected for Lion Fight Muay Thai VII

In addition to Eddie Walker vs. Joe Schilling and Joseph Valtellini vs. Gregory Choplin, two more bouts are expected for Lion Fight Muay Thai VII. Jeri Sitzes vs. Tiffany Van Soest and Coke Chunhawat vs. Adrian Morilla will also take place at the October 13th event at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, CA.

Sitzes will be defending her WBC International Super Bantamweight Title against Van Soest who in less than a year has started to make her mark on the female Muay Thai scene. Both ladies are undefeated and the bout should prove to be an exciting one for the fans.

Coke Chunhawat will be returning to action to take on Black House fighter Adrian Morilla. Chunhawat will definitely be the more experienced fighter of the two, so it will be interesting to see if Morilla can offer the veteran a challenge in the ring.

2011 Muay Thai Authority Awards

2011 will likely go down as the "Year of Muay Thai in North America." Several ground breaking fights and events took place, further giving North American Muay Thai international recognition. With all of the action in the books for 2011 it’s time to announce the 2011 Muay Thai Authority awards. In our effort to continue to push Muay Thai in North America, we have decided to once again recognize the North American Fighter of the Year (male and female), Breakthrough Fighter of the Year, Fight of the Year, and Knockout of the Year. In addition we had decided to add two new categories, Trainer of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

The criteria for the awards are as follows: Recipients of Fighter of the Year, Breakthrough Fighter of the year, and Rookie of the Year, must be based in North America. To be eligible for Rookie of the Year, the fighter must not have had a pro fight before November 1st, 2010 (the time frame for the award is 14 months). For the Fight of the Year and Knockout of the Year, the fights needed to have taken place on North American soil (a North American fighter scoring a KO in Thailand doesn’t count).

Results and Recap: Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 3"

Primm, NV -- There was controversy in the night’s main event at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 3”. Cosmo Alexandre and Sakmongkol fought for five rounds and it was over it seemed there would be an obvious decision in favor of Cosmo, however, when the verdict was read it was in favor of Sakmongkol to the surprise of everyone. The very passive Cosmo was clearly furious at the result and Sakmongkol himself seemed shocked at decision.

Cosmo was able to score when he decided to engage with Sakmongkol, by the time the fifth round came along Sakmongkol was bloody. It was clear Cosmo was not trying to add any insult to injury, but that might have been his downfall. Instead of going for the finish Cosmo held back in the final rounds rather than trying to finish Sakmongkol, which eventually would go on to cost him the fight. The decision in favor of Sakmongkol was clearly very questionable and Cosmo was not the only person who disagreed with the decision as many fans booed the result when it was announced. It was an unfortunate ending to what had been a great night of fights.

Predictions: Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 3"

It's prediction time again. Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 3" will takes place this weekend at Buffalo Bill's Casino in Primm, NV. A night of exciting fights is expected with four WBC Muay Thai title fights on the line. You can't go wrong with a card that includes the likes of Cosmo Alexandre, Sakmongkol, Ky Hollnebeck, Joe Schilling, Jeri Sitzes and Simon Chu. Below are the predictions by Muay Thai Authority, remember if you decide to bet on any of these fights in Primm please do so responsibly.

Cosmo Alexandre vs. Sakmongkol Zingano
This is an interesting match-up pitting a world ranked fighter such as Cosmo against a legend of Muay Thai in Sakmongkol. Cosmo is the type of fighter that fights based off of how his opponents fight. Sakmongkol showed in his recent fight against James Martinez that there is still plenty of steam left in his legs as he brutalized Martinez with kicks in route to a stoppage win. He came out looking to damage his opponent and if he comes out against Cosmo like that we can expect to see Cosmo and Sakmongkol in an exciting bout. However, if Sakmongkol comes out and wants to fight a slow paced fight then Cosmo will do the same. Whether it turns into an exciting fracas or it is a long drawn out affair, Cosmo will likely end up the winner. Yes, Sakmongkol looked good against James Martinez, but Cosmo is by far a more superior fighter than Martinez and his age and speed will play a big factor in the fight.

Jeri Sizes vs. Misty Sutherland set to take place at Battle in the Desert 3 for WBC Muay Thai International title

Jeri Sitzes and Misty Sutherland were originally scheduled to meet May 14th at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 2", however, an injury to Sutherland forced her out of the fight. Sitzes defeated Sally McCarthy that night via TKO in the second round and is now once again set to meet Sutherland. The pair is set to fight for Sitzes WBC Muay Thai women's featherweight title on August 20th at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 3". Muay Thai Authority has confirmed the fight with sources close the situation.

Sitzes will be looking to avoid the first loss of her career, while Sutherland will be looking to take the title back to Canada. Sitzes is a well rounded fighter from Missouri who has proven to be a finisher. Part of what makes Sitzes an exciting fighter as that she goes in to finish every time she steps into the ring. Sutherland is trained by Mike Miles and has had over 30 amateur and pro fights combined. Like all Mike Miles students she is tough as nails and will be a test for Sitzes who's last two fights on U.S. soil were against opponents who took the fights on short notice.

Primm  Valley, NV -- It was an action packed night of fights at the Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill's Casino. Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 2" featured some of the biggest names in American Muay Thai as well as some highly regarded international fighters.

In the nights main event Kevin Ross looked to defend his WBC Muay Thai Super Lightweight International Title against Mark DeLuca. The fight started out with both fighters feeling each other out, once the second round came Ross started to turn up the pressure. By the third round Ross had taken over the fight, as was able to get off first with his attacks, eventually cutting DeLuca's lip with an elbow. Despite DeLuca hanging tough the doctor stopped the fight after the third round due to the cut on his lip.

Battle in the Desert 2 predictions

This coming weekend Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 2" will take place at Buffalo Bills Casino in Primm, NV. The card is filled from top to bottom with quality Muay Thai fights featuring some of the United States biggest names, as well as some highly regarded international talent.

Kevin Ross vs. Mark DeLuca for WBC Muay Thai Super Lightweight International Title

Ross is the hands down favorite to win this bout. He has more experience against higher level competition and as he showed against Sittisak his last fight he can stay in a fight even when things are not going his way. None the less this is a fight and DeLuca has the ability to KO Ross, although it seems highly unlikely. DeLuca is known as a slow starter and despite being able to rally late he can not afford to start slow. In the end this fight is going to be Ross' fight to win or lose. Expect to see him pull out all the stops in route to an early stoppage.
