With two very exciting cards coming up this weekend in North America, we decided to give you three things to be on the look out for this weekend. Ranging from fighters to events.
1. Can Joe Schilling talk the talk and walk the walk?
Schilling was pretty vocal in a recent interview with Muay Thai Authority regarding his ranking by the WBC. Along the line he also stated that current WBC National Super Middleweight Champion Jared Lara has been ducking him, he questioned Eric Utsch being ranked ahead of him by the WBC, and laughed at the fact that Ky Hollenbeck whom was originally scheduled to face Schilling instead of Chase Green this upcoming weekend, pulled out of the fight to face Johan Lidon for a world title. He also stated that none of them want to fight him. They were some strong words from Schilling, but his past performances have never disappointed and the odds of him not being able to back up his words regarding being the best super middleweight are very slim. None the less, if he doesn't the critics will definitely begin to fire back.
2. Will Journey Fight Series 140lb tourney deliver?
Definitely the most stacked tournament in North America that has arrived in quite some time, the Journey Fight Series 140lb tournament has all the promise to deliver some exciting fights. The great thing about this tournament is that it is not a single night tournament. With single night tournaments many times you get fighters fighting safe trying to save energy, and avoid much damage in the opening rounds. With this tournament taking place over the course of a few months we should see every fighter coming out to finish the fights, and willing to exchange. Hopefully all the fighters show up to put on a show.
3. Can Coke Chunhawat deliver again?
There is no doubt that Coke Chunhawat is a great fighter, however before his fight with Scotty Leffler he had delivered two so-so performances that saw him squeak out two split decision victories. One over fellow tournament participant Matt Embree and the other against Jose Palacios. If Chunhawat fights as he did against Leffler, with that killer instinct then it is hard to imagine anyone in the tournament beating him, if he goes back to the lackadaisical style he showed against Embree, and Palacios don't be surprised to see any of the fighters in the tournament beat him. So which Coke will show up?
