Results and Recap: Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4"
by Faye Lucas
Las Vegas -- Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 4”, took place at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and it was an action packed night. Despite a bout between Eduardo Maiorino and Terroll Dees being scratched from the fight card the day of the event, the remaining six professional bouts were all high quality fights.
The night’s main event featured a WBC Muay Thai international middleweight title fight between Chaz Mulkey and Simon Chu. Both fighters came out aggressive and looking to establish the temp of the fight, in the second round Mulkey started to take control as he pressed forward forcing Chu to fight moving backwards. Chu was able to land some good strikes as Mulkey pressed the action, but Mulkey was able to continuously land solid kicks and connect with punches, in the clinch he was able to keep Chu from landing elbows. Chu did cut Mulkey on the top of his head later in the fight, but it didn’t really affect Mulkey. The fight went the distance and all three judges awarded the bout to Mulkey, the unanimous decision win marks the first title defense of his WBC Muay Thai international title. With the win Mulkey caps off a great year in which he has gone 5-0.

Predictions: Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4"
With Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4" is taking place this weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, it's time for predictions. This is one of the more difficult fight cards as far as predictions go as of late. The fights are all very evenly matched and picking a winner wasn't an easy task. As always don't go bet the house as the sports book, these are fights and anything can happen.
The night will feature three WBC Muay Thai title bouts including the main event between Chaz Mulkey and Simon Chu. The fight will be Mulkey's first title defense of his WBC Muay Thai international middleweight title. The other two title bouts will feature Malaipet vs. Jose Palacios for the WBC Muay Thai national welterweight title and Coke Chunhawat vs. Rami Ibrahim for the WBC Muay Thai lightweight national title.
Chaz Mulkey (7-4) vs. Simon Chu (29-7)
The Matchup: Mulkey will be looking to successfully defend his WBC Muay Thai international title for the first time when he takes on the UK's Simon Chu. His win over Remy Bonnel to claim the title was as close as a fight could get so he will likely be trying to make his first defense a more decisive one.

BREAKING NEWS: Malaipet replaces Kit Cope at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4"
Kit Cope was set to make his return to Muay Thai at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4" this weekend against Jose Palacios, however, the Nevada State Athletic Comission (NSAC) did not clear Cope. Muay Thai Authority has been informed by Lion Fight Promotions that Malaipet Sasiprapa will step in to replace Cope on short notice. Once again Malaipet proves that he is willing to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime.
The reason for Cope not being licensed is currently unknown. Cope has had issues with the NSAC before, in 2007 he tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone and had his license suspended by the NSAC.
Malaipet last competed in August when he dropped a unanimous decision to Chike Lindsay, despite being in what is the worst stretch of his career Malaipet is always ready to fight. In July he took a kickboxing bout against highly regarded UK fighter Tim Thomas on one days notice, fighting Thomas to a draw.

From the Brink and Back: Chaz Mulkey
Muay Thai is still in its infancy in the United States, it is starting to develop a larger following, and too many it seems there is boom. The growth that is occurring is great for the sport; these are not the dark ages of Muay Thai like the late 90’s and early 2000’s were. If Muay Thai does becomes a mainstream sport it is probably safe to say that many of the established fighters today will be on their way out by that time. We will be left with memories of fighters that helped push the sport to the next level and helped it gain recognition in the United States because they were able to stand up and compete with some of the best around the world. One of these fighters that will likely not be forgotten is Chaz Mulkey.
Fighting out of Las Vegas, Mulkey has carved his spot in American Muay Thai by taking on all challengers. Mulkey wasn't raised on Muay Thai, his path to it actually starting by chance. As unlikely as it sounds, a t-shirt plays a major role in Mulkey finding Muay Thai. He grew up in Texas, where one night he noticed a friend’s shirt, a Saekson Janjira Muay Thai shirt. Mulkey inquired about the shirt and

Elaina Maxwell talks about her upcoming fight with Roxy Richardson at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4"
Elaina Maxwell will make her pro Muay Thai debut on November 19th against Roxy Richardson at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4". The CSA fighter will be looking to make an impression for the Las Vegas crowd in what is expected to be an entertaining fight. Elaina was kind enough to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about her upcoming fight with Roxy Richardson.
MTA: You are fighting Roxy Richardson at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 4" on Nov 19th. Being that you have competed in MMA would you say the training is easier since you only have to focus on the stand up portion of training?
Elaina: No, not at all. Mentally it is less "draining" in that your not juggling the multiple disciplines (Boxing, Muaythai, Wrestling, BJJ, Sambo, etc) in the same way, but physically the training is just as demanding if not more.
