Top King World Series: TK4 Results - Buakaw loses, McAllister wins tournament

Top King World Series: TK4 took place today in Hong Kong, China and it lived up to expectations. The Top King 154 lb title was on the line and the semi-final match ups did not disappoint. Reece McAllister punched his ticket to the tournament final by taking a decision over Dmytro Konstantynov

In the other semi-final bout all eyes were on Buakaw Banchamek, who was expected by many to win the tournament. Khayal Dzhaniev was not one of those people as he went toe to toe with the Thai for three rounds. He opened up a cut on the left side of Buakaw’s head which bled throughout the fight. Both men delivered powerful strikes throughout the bout, using their entire arsenal. When it was all over the judges awarded Dzhaniev the decision victory to advance to the finals.

Reece McAllister was declared the Top King World Series 154 lb Champion when Khayal Dzhaniev was not able to fight in the tournament final due to injuries sustained in his semi-final bout.

In the night’s super fights Rungravee Sasiprapa scored a decision win over Wei Ning Hui. Pakorn P.K. Saenchai Muaythai Gym defeated Varats Dzmitry by decision. Canadian Matt Embree scored a first round (T)KO over Sittisak Petchapayathai. Siam Warriors Results : Rungravee avenges loss to Pornsanae

Siam Warriors took place this past weekend in Cork, Ireland. The event featured a main event bout between Saenchai and Ireland’s Stephen Meleady. It was an entertaining fight for fans, and Meleady put on a solid performance in front of his home crowd. Despite his worthy effort Saenchai proved to be too much for him. In the fourth round the fight was stopped due to a cut that Saenchai had opened on Meleady. As it has come to be expected it was another great performance from Saenchai.

In a fight that fans couldn’t wait to see, Rungravee Sasiprapa took on Pornsanae Sitmonchai in a re-match of their 2013 fight. In their first encounter Pornsanae scored a impressive elbow KO over Rungravee. The re-match was a different story, both fighters went toe to toe and no one landed a fight ending strike. This one went to the judges and Rungravee took a decision on the judges’ score cards to even up his rivalry with Pornsanae at one a piece.

Results:
Saenchai PKSaenchaimuaythaigym def. Stephen Meleady via (T)KO (Cut) in Rd. 4

Ognjen Topic talks training in Thailand and his Muay Thai future

Ognjen Topic is one of the United State's best Muay Thai talents. After his last win over Coke Chunhawat he took some time to go to Thailand and train at Eminent Air Gym in Bangkok. Ognjen was kind enough to sit down and answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about his upcoming plans, his trip to Thailand, and more.

MTA: Can you describe your experience with training in Thailand? It seems you visit often and at lengths at a time.
Ognjen: This is my forth time in Thailand. The previous 3 times I stayed for one month each, this time I am staying for seven months. The experience has been great, I realized how crucial it is to be training everyday. There are good and bad days but I keep in mind my goals and push through the obstacles. For the most part I feel like I am consistently getting better.

MTA: What do you gain from training there over what you find in the U.S.?

Ognjen: Experience. I am training with current champions in Thailand every day. The level of these fighters is superior and is something I cannot replicate back home. I understood that it was the experience that I needed in order to become a more successful fighter. There are no shortcuts to experience and simply just takes time through repetition. This is why I chose to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time.

MTA: There was recently a coup in Thailand. Can you tell us a bit how, if at all, it has affected your daily life there? Do you know if it affects the fights in the stadiums at all?

Ognjen: What coup? It really hasn’t affected anyone's daily routine here in Thailand. The Thais have dealt with this numerous times before and I really respect the way the army handled the situation. They truly care for the country's well being. Yes, the stadiums have been affected and one of my fights was postponed two times because of the curfew.

MTA: How is the experience fighting in Thailand?

Channel 7 118lb. Champion Jack Satanfaa. Photo by Scott Hirano

Ognjen: The competition is a lot harder here. The main difference is that the Thais have expert timing. This is what I’ve been trying to work on while training with and fighting against the Thais. I try to set specific goals on what I want to learn, whether it be a specific move or a skill such as timing. I try to work on it until I get it. If I don’t successfully accomplish what I’m working on within a few days than I leave it alone and come back days or weeks later to retry.

MTA: How is that experience different from fighting in the U.S.?

Ognjen: The whole fight is different. As most fans know, Thais tend to fight in the later rounds. In Thailand we also get a two minute rest break which gives a fighter a lot more time to recuperate so that he can fight harder in the later rounds. I do prefer fighting in Thailand, the scoring system is much better. In Thailand a weak fighter can throw 5 kicks while a strong fighter can throw one strong kick and in this case the one stronger kick thrown will count more. Back in America (some states excluded) no emphasis is placed on a fighters ability to perform the techniques well–with balance and power. Emphasis is placed on the fighter who is walking forward and out working his opponent even if the techniques are weak.

MTA: How long before American fans get to see fight state side again?

Ognjen: I will be fighting for Lion Fight sometime by the end of the year.

MTA: Who would you like to fight when you return to action in the United States?

Ognjen: As I stated before, I’d like to fight Rungravee and anyone else that is ranked at a high level. Win or lose I get satisfaction out of challenging myself.

MTA: It seems that there are more potential fights at higher weights. Would it be possible to see you move up to 140lbs or is that out of the question?

Ognjen: As of now I have no plans fighting at that weight. When I am training for a fight here in Thiland I have been walking around at about 138lbs. The guys at 140lbs are walking around at much heavier weights. It’s not out of the questions but for now I have no plans.

MTA: Any parting words for those who look forward to your return to the ring in the U.S.?

Ognjen: I will be back soon and as a much stronger and technically sound fighter. I promise to give even better and more exciting fights thank before.
MTA: Thanks for your time, Ognjen. Enjoy your trip and we look forward to seeing you in the ring again.

Ognjen: Thanks, see you all soon.

KO of the Week: Rungravee Sasiprapa vs. Kunitaka Fujiwara

Rungravee Sasiprapa made his US debut in 2011 against Kunitaka Fujiwara and immediately became a fan favorite with his aggressive fight style.

Rungravee's KO of Fujiwara is this week's KO of the week. Grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy a beautiful display of violence by Rungravee as it takes him two rounds to put away Fujiwara in this action packed fight. It was a worthy effort by Fujiwara, but in the end Rungravee's onslaught was just too much.

Lion Fight 16 Results and Recap

Lion Fight 16 took place last night from The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, NV. The night's main event featured a clash between America's Kevin Ross and Australia's Michael "Tomahawk" Thompson for the Lion Fight Super Lightweight World Championship, and as expected the fighters two did not disappoint.

As always Ross came out looking to meet in the middle and trade and Thompson was more than willing to do the same. Ross was clearly the bigger of the two fighters and for those that say size doesn't matter, it does. Ross was able to bully the gutsy Aussie with his size and constant pressure. Ross seemed to get stronger with each round and in the end it was too much for Thompson to over come and the judges awarded Ross a unanimous decision victory. It was a great performance for Ross who has now won three straight for the first time since 2010. With the win Ross is Lion Fight's inaugural super lightweight champion.

Tiffany Van Soest continued her road back to the title as she took on Sindy Huyer and it was business as usual for "Time Bomb". After a close first round where Van Soest and Huyer were feeling each other out things picked up in favor of Van Soest. In the second round Van Soest landed a beautiful spinning elbow that dropped Huyer. Despite being able to recover and beat the count the remainder of the fight was all Van Soest. In the final round a teep to the face from Van Soest also resulted in a wardrobe malfunction as Van Soest's foot pulled down the top of Huyer. As Huyer turned to pull up her top Van Soest connected with punch and the referee stepped in and stopped the bout. Van Soest was clearly on her way to a victory unless some miraculous comeback occurred, but the referee definitely made a bad call. Huyer fought hard enough that she deserved to continue to fight on. None the less Van Soest put on a great performance and after the victory called out Caley Reece in hopes of getting a chance to avenge her only career loss and winning back her Lion Fight belt.

Rungravee Sasiprapa made his Lion Fight debut against Adrian Morilla. Rungravee started the fight slow compared to how he normally fights, but by the end it was all Rungravee. Much credit has to be given to Morilla for hanging tough and trying to go toe to toe with a seasoned veteran like Rungravee, but in the end the Thai Terminator was just too much and the judges awarded Rungravee a unanimous decision win.

In the night's other two pro fights Gaston Bolanos improved to 2-0 with first round (T)KO over Tyler Toner. Josh Shepard tasted defeat for the first time in his pro career with a split decision loss to Casey Parlett, who was making his pro debut.

Results:
Kevin Ross def. Michael Thompson via Unanimous Decision
Tiffany Van Soest def. Sindy Huyer via (T)KO in Rd. 5
Rungravee Sasiprapa def. Adrian Morilla via Unanimous Decision
Gaston Bolanos def. Tyler Toner via (T)KO in Rd. 1
Casey Parlett def. Josh Shepard via Split Decision

Lion Fight 16 Predictions

Lion Fight 16 takes place tomorrow from The Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas, NV. The event will feature some exciting fights including the highly anticipated clash between Kevin Ross and Michael "Tomahawk" Thompson.

It's time to break down all the action for the five pro fights on the Lion Fight card. Nathan Aripez breaks down the fights for you and gives you his picks on who he thinks will end up victorious on the night.

Kevin Ross vs. Michael Thompson

Ross will definitely have the crowd on his side on this one. Not only is it the 4th of July so patriotism will be riding high in Las Vegas with American fans, Ross is one of the sports most popular American fighters. Australia's Michael Thompson will definitely have to ignore the crowd because you can be assured that he won't be hearing anything friendly from them.

Ross has looked like a former shell of himself in the last two years but he is entering the fight having won his last two fights. In his last outing Ross cut his opponent, Chris Mauceri early in the fight and you could see that Ross was extremely confident afterwards. If Ross can do some damage early and build that confidence and momentum it could mean trouble for Thompson. The likeliness of that happening doesn't seem high, Thompson is a lot more seasoned than Mauceri and I don't see him allowing Ross to build any type of momentum. Ross is known for his incredible cardio and ability to take damage and keep moving forward, if Thompson fades in the later rounds then Ross will definitely be able to take advantage of the situation, however, don't expect Thompson to fade as the young lad is resilient.

Thompson has all the tools and is one of Australia's youngest and brightest fighters. He mixes up his punches and strikes well, and is as durable as they come. With his willingness to stand and trade he and Ross should be an entertaining match up, but Thompson can't simply stand and trade with Ross or he could pay the price because that is the type of fight Ross likes. Thompson needs to mix in a solid clinch attack as Ross has shown in the past the clinch is not his strongest area. If Thompson can mix his strikes and then move into clinch range and work some solid knees and elbows he should do well.

I don't see either fighter finishing the fight, it will most likely go the distance and these two will beat each other up until the final bell. If anyone were to finish the other off I would have to pick Thompson as the more likely one to earn a stoppage win. With that said I think Thompson just has more tools to win and will take home a decision.

Prediction: Michael Thompson def. Kevin Ross by Decision

Tiffany Van Soest vs. Sindy Huyer
This will definitely be a match up of styles. Van Soest is extremely athletic and light on her feet and she uses this to explode with punches and kicks. Huyer is more of a grinder, she likes to clinch and grind her opponents from there, but she isn't afraid to mix things up from a distance either.

Van Soest's only area that needs improvement is her clinch. Caley Reece used a clinch heavy attack to beat her and other opponents have given her trouble in that area as well, but Van Soest has been able to over come it on several occasions. Huyer needs to make this a clinch heavy fight and try to keep Van Soest from creating distance. If Huyer can't keep Van Soest tied up in the clinch then she will be in trouble. Van Soest will pick her apart from a distance with her diverse array of strikes. Huyer might prove to be some trouble early, but Van Soest will rectify any issues Huyer might present with her clinch in the early rounds and score a stoppage in the later rounds and she gets more comfortable in the fight.

Prediction: Tiffany Van Soest def. Sindy Huyer by (T)KO in Rd. 4

Rungravee Sasiprapa vs. Adrian Morilla

A lot of people are wondering why this match up was made. Rungravee is extremely more experienced than Morilla, and Morilla hasn't shown in his young career that he is ready to take on someone like Rungravee. Despite what anyone thinks Morilla is a tough kid, but though in this situation will only mean that Morilla will last a little longer than expected before the inevitable happens, and that is a stoppage by Rungravee. Expect Rungravee to come out looking to end this early, Morilla will probably make it to the second round possibly the third but he will most likely take a beating to make it that far in the fight.

Prediction: Rungravee Sasiprapa def. Adrian Morilla by KO in Rd. 3

Gaston Bolanos vs. Tyler Toner

Bolanos is one of Muay Thais brightest young stars. He is explosive and has a well rounded style, Toner who is mainly an MMA fighter will have his hands full with the "Dream Killer". Bolanos will be looking to finish this fight early and eventually his arsenal will be too much for Toner to handle. Bolanos will score a stoppage in the third round.

Prediction: Gaston Bolanos def. Tyler Toner by (T)KO in Rd. 3

Josh Shepard vs. Casey Parlett

Shepard will be the bigger of the two in the ring and that will prove to be a huge advantage. Shepard will use his size to bully Parlett around the ring and eventually use his hands to score a stoppage victory. Shepard has a well rounded attack and will probably use all his tools to break down Parlett, but with his movement and athleticism expect him to lands some big punches from different angles.

Prediction: Josh Shepard def. Casey Parlett via KO in Rd. 3

Muay Thai was in full effect in Macau, China this past weekend with Muay Thai in Macau. The event featured some big Muay Thai names including Kem Sitsongpeenong, Buakaw, and Saenchai. Kem was facing fell Thai stand out Singmanee Kaewsamrit. In the second round of their fight Kem and Singmanee clinched and Kem delivered some solid elbows and a high kick, when they separated the referee called for time so the doctor could examine Singmanee and after determining his nose was broken the fight was stopped. It's a huge win for Kem over a highly talented fighter in Singmanee.

Buakaw was in full attack mode against Adaylton Parreira De Freitas. As soon as the fight started he was the aggressor and it was only time before he Buakaw connected with something big. In the second round a left hook dropped De Freitas and after he was able to get back to his feet a head kick ended his night. Spectacular knockout by Buakaw. With the win Buakaw has now won 28 consecutive fights.

Saenchai was his usual self in the ring as he out pointed Bertrand Lambert en route to decision victory. With the victory Saenchai gets back on the winning track after his decision loss to Singdam at the Toyota Marathon Final.

Lion Fight 16 fight card official

Lion Fight 16 will take place July 4th from The Pearl at The Palms Casino in Las Vegas. The Independence Day event will feature a Lion Fight Super Lightweight title fight between America's Kevin Ross and Australia's Michael Thompson, the co-main event will feature Tiffany Van Soest vs. Sindy Huyer. The remainder of the card will feature Thai stand out Rungravee Sasiprapa vs. Adrian Morilla as well as Katel Kubis vs. Michael Corley.

Ross recently defeated up and comer Chris Mauceri by third round (T)KO at Lion Fight 15 in Connecticut. Ross cut Mauceri early in the bout and eventually the cut forced the doctor stoppage. Thompson is one of Australia's best up and coming fighters and has a huge in under his belt over Pornsanae Sitmonchai.

Van Soest will look to win back to back fights when she takes on Italy's Sindy Huyer. It will be another solid test for Van Soest as she looks to climb back into title contention to regain the title she lost to Caley Reece earlier this year. Huyer has frequently trained in Thailand and will definitely benefit from a victory over a fighter like Van Soest.

Fight Card:
Kevin Ross vs. Michael Thompson
Tiffany Van Soest vs. Sindy Huyer
Rungravee Sasiprapa vs. Adrian Morilla
Katel Kubis vs. Michael Corley
Tyler Toner vs. Gaston Bolanos
Josh Shepard vs. Casey Partlett

Paowarit Sasiprapa replaces Rungravee against Damien Trainor at Muay Thai in America: In Honor of the King on December 1st

Damien Trainor’s (@Damien_Trainor) opportunity to avenge his loss to Rungravee Sasiprapa will have to wait. Rungravee and Trainor were set to fight at Muay Thai in America: In Honor of the King (@MuayThaiAmerica) on December 1, 2012 in Playa Vista, CA. Rungravee, however, has been forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury. Stepping in to replace Rungravee is Sasiprapa team mate Paowarit Sasiprapa.

Paowarit is just as dangerous as Rungravee. He is an Omnoi Stadium champion, a Rajadamnern Stadium champion, and WMC champion. Muay Thai in America will mark the debut of Paowarit on American soil, and being paired up with Trainor should make for an exciting fight.

The re-match between Rungravee and Trainor is now expected to take place at Muay Thai In America: Songkran America Promotion on April 13, 2013.

Who wins, Team America or Team Thailand? Predictions for M-One "Team Thailand vs. Team America"

With M-One "Team Thailand vs. Team America" right around the corner it is once again time for predictions. Team America certainly has their work cut out for them, but despite being seen as under dogs all of Team America fighters posses the tools to win. It will be an exciting night of fights and could potentially be a huge step forward for American Muay Thai depending on the results and performances of the American team.

Kevin Ross vs. Sakkedao Petchpayathai - WBC Muay Thai super lightweight world title
Ross goes from a fight with Saenchai to a fight with Sakkedao. While most people would like an easier fight their next time out that isn't the case with Ross, he continues to want to take on the best. Sakkedao has defeated Saenchai twice, but as Ross has stated, it doesn't matter because they are both different and the fact that they both have fought Saenchai is a mute point.
