Origins 7 Results: Yodsanklai takes decision over Tentori

Origins 7 took place this past weekend in Perth, Australia. The main event featured Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Marco Tentori

Tentori came out aggressive in the bout, throwing strikes in volume. Yodsanklai didn't seem affected by the volume of strikes that were thrown his way as he calmly held the center of the ring and stalked Tentori. Yodsanklai started to pick up his output in the second round and both fighters were showing a diverse arsenal as they mixed in their kicks, punches, knees and elbows together.

The third round is when Yodsanklai really began to take control despite Tentori throwing more volume. Yodsanklai defended well from most of Tentori's strikes, and when he did connect they didn't seem to affect Yodanklai. In the fourth round a well placed elbow opened up a cut over Tentori's right eye, after Yodsanklai noticed this he targeted the eye a bit more.

Tentori was still game in the final round until with less than a minute to go an elbow from Yodsanklai hurt Tentori, as he tried to back away Yodsanklai followed with a knee and Tentori dropped to his knees and received an 8-count from the referee. Tentori was able to make it to the end of the fight in a valiant effort, but the judges awarded Yodsanklai a unanimous decision. With the win Yodsanklai has now won 20 consecutive fights, and has not lost since November of 2011.

Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Marco Tentori set as main event for Origins 7 on August 8th in Australia

Rumors of Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Giorgio Petrosyan circulated like crazy earlier this week. Although the Thai super star wont be stepping into the ring against Petrosyan, he will be fighting in August. He will be headlining Origins 7 in Perth, Australia against Marco "Machine Gun" Tentori.

Yodsanklai needs little introduction as he is one of the most popular Muay Thai fighters of all time. It seemed his career was coming to an end late 2011, but a new dedication to training saw him storm back into the spotlight in 2012 and has since won 19 consecutive fights. Names like Victor Nagbe, Marat Grigorian, Yohan Lidon, and Kem Sitsonpeenong are among the fighters he has beat during his current run.

Tentori is an ISKA Muay Thai Commonwealth Champion, and has been in the ring with some of Australia's more recognized fighters. He went the distance with Steve Moxon dropping a decision to him, but holds a decision win over Franki Giorgi. Yodsanklai will easily be the toughest test of Tentori's career. Known for his rapid fire approach that earned him the nickname "Machine Gun", Tentori will have to put on the performance of his career against Yodsanklai, and if he does he will immediately garner the attention from Muay Thai fans around the world.

Yodsanklai vs. Chike Lindsay, Ognjen Topic vs. Coke Chunhawat, and more expected at Lion Fight 10

When Lion Fight 10 was announced a few weeks back all that was known about the main event was that Yodsanklai would be fighting; now it seems he has an opponent. Although Lion Fight has yet to make any announcement, sources close to the situation informed Muay Thai Authority that Chike Lindsay from Atlanta, GA will be fighting Yodsanklai. Also announced to fight on the card, but their opponents were initially unknown were Ognjen Topic and Joe Schilling. Topic is expected to fight Coke Chunhawat, and Schilling is expected to fight Charles Byrd. Jason Andrada and JP Cole are also expected to fight tat Lion Fight 10 which will take place July 26th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV and will air live on AXS TV. These fight are expected to join the already announced bouts of Kevin Ross vs. Matt Embree, and Tiffany Van Soest vs. Lucy Payne.

Yodsanklai is in the midst of a career resurgence. He was posted five consecutive wins including victories over Kem Sitsongpeenong, Yohan Lidon, and Gregory Choplin and is currently in what many believe to be the best shape of his life. Lindsay is currently on a five fight win streak of his own including victories over Thai legend Somluck Kamsing, Christophe Pruvost, and Malaipet Sasiprapa. This fight will undoubtedly be the toughest test of Lindsay’s career, but if he can pull out the upset if would be a huge step forward for American Muay Thai.

Topic is coming off an amazing knockout over Paowarit Sasiprapa at Lion Fight 9. The young fighter from New Jersey has already made waves in his young pro career and will look to continue the trend against Chunhawat at Lion Fight 10. Chunhawat has long been considered one of the best active Thai fighters living in North America. His nice blend of technique and speed will undoubtedly present a stern test for Topic, and both have a lot to gain from a victory.

Schilling will look to get back on the winning track as he takes on Charles Byrd of Saekson’s Muay Thai in Texas. Byrd has been active in MMA most recently, while Schilling was last fought in October when he suffered a knockout loss to Eddie Walker at Lion Fight 7.

Jason Andrada will look to move to 3-0 when he takes on JP Cole. Andrada has been impressive in his two pro fights this far winning both by stoppage.

Lion Fight has yet to make an official announcement regarding the bouts, but one is expected within the next week.

Expected Fight Card:
Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Chike Lindsay
Kevin Ross vs. Matt Embree
Tiffany Van Soest vs. Lucy Payne
Ognjen Topic vs. Coke Chunhawat
Joe Schilling vs. Charles Byrd
Jason Andrada vs. JP Cole
Malaipet Sasiprapa vs. TBA

Yodsanklai wins by (T)KO at Thai Fight Pattaya

Thai Fight took place last night in Pattaya, Thailand and Yodsanklai Fairtex was the night’s main attraction. Yodsanklai had not fought in a Thai Fight event since August of 2011 when he lost a decision to Yasuhito Shirasu. Currently in the middle of a career resurgence Yodsanklai posted his fifth consecutive victory with a second round (T)KO victory over little known Naimjon Tuhtobaev of Uzbekistan.

"Lion Fight 8" fight card set with 8 pro bouts; Ross vs. Kwiatkowski, Bonnel vs. Campbell and Malaipet vs. Gulati all official

Lion Fight Promotions (@LFPLasVegas) has been on a tear as of late. First they announced that their January 25th event “Lion Fight 8” would be broadcast live on AXS TV, and then they announced their main even fight of Yodsanklai vs. Gregory Choplin. Now they have released their full fight card and it is a great card from top to bottom.

Aside from the previously confirmed bouts of Yodsanklai vs. Gregory Choplin and Tiffany Van Soest (@TiffTimeBomb) vs. Alexis Rufus, the previously rumored bout between Kevin Ross (@DaSoulAssassin) and Chris Kwiatkowski is now official.

Ross has not competed since October of 2011 when he fought Sagetdao Petchpayathai and will be looking to return to action against New York’s Kwiatkowski. The fight is expected to be the biggest of Kwiatkowski’s career, this past weekend he dropped a decision to Jose Palacios, but a win vs. Ross will definitely thrust him into the spotlight in the American Muay Thai scene.

Remy Bonnel will also be returning to action after nearly a year and a half off. Welcoming Bonnel back to action will be Shane Campbell (@ShaolinStyleMMA) who recently made a successful return to Muay Thai after taking a few years off to focus on MMA. This should be an exciting fight as Campbell’s aggressive style should force the very technical Bonnel into and exciting bout.

Also returning from a long hiatus is World Team USA fighter Vishnu Gulati who has not competed in over two years. Taking on Gulati is Malaipet Sasiprapa, who will be looking to continue his recent resurgence. Malaipet lost his last outing back in June by decision to Chike Lindsay, but will be looking to bounce back this weekend when he takes on Cesar Figueroa in Mexico.

The eight fight pro card will be rounded out with a female bout featuring Vivian Leung vs. Kate McGray and the pro debuts of two Las Vegas locals. Josh Shepard will be making his pro debut against Damien Early (@Early_Damien) and Jason Andrada will be making his pro debut against Thiago Azeredo.

Fight Card:
Yodsanklai Fairtex vs. Gregory Choplin
Tiffany Van Soest vs. Alexis Rufus
Kevin Ross vs. Chris Kwiatkowski
Remy Bonnel vs. Shane Campbell
Malaipet vs. Vishnu Gulati
Vivian Leung vs. Kate McGray
Jason Andrada vs. Thiago Azeredo
Josh Shepard vs. Damien Early

Pros give their thoughts on Schilling vs. Marcus controversy

Due to the extensive controversy over the Joe Schilling vs. Simon Marcus fight this past weekend at Lion Fight Promotions "Battle in the Desert 5", we decided to take our questions to the pros. We asked them if they thought the throw by Simon Marcus was legal and if they feel the outcome should remain as is and not be changed. Pro fighters from around the world were able to view the fight and in addition to getting responses from North American fighters we also have responses from several international fighters, such as Yodsanklai Fairtex, John Wayne Parr and Artem Levin. In total we asked 50 pro fighters, 31 of which responded. Regardless of the fighters' opinions, at this point the final decision on whether or not to overturn the ruling is in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The one thing that is very clear is that most would like to see a re-match.

Thai Fight Japan results and recap: Yodsanklai loses, Buakaw, Pinca and Saiyok win

Buakaw Por. Pramuk faced Tomaki Makino at Thai Fight Japan and seemed to have no trouble implementing his attack against the taller Makino. Buakaw scored big in the second round when a right elbow cut Makino under his left eye and a left elbow that followed sent him to the canvas. Makino received a count, but came back into the fight meeting Buakaw in the center of the ring. A left by Buakaw later floored Makino again, but once again he came out looking to exchange with Buakaw after the count. After a right by Buakaw hurt Makino, he followed up with with two more punches before the referee stepped in and halted the fight. It seemed as if the stoppage might have been a bit premature, but Buakaw clearly had Makino hurt against the ropes. Buakaw looked in excellent form, despite Makino at times landed some very solid strikes of his own, Buakaw seemed unfazed by them.
