Fans love head kicks, it gets them excited and is a spectacular way to finish a fight. Ognjen Topic went head kick happy in his fight against Paowarit Sasiprapa at Lion Fight 9 in March of 2013. Topic scored a knockdown with a head kick in every round, with the final one at the beginning of the third round. Adding to the excitement of the knockdowns was Paowarit's ability to continue to get up. His toughness could never be questioned as he continued to get up after each knockdown and even after the final knockdown he was attempting to get up, but the referee had seen enough. Get your Monday started off right by watching this great knockout.

Simon Marcus vs. Artem Levin was one of the most anticipated fights for over a year, and at Lion Fight 9 fans were able to see who the best light heavyweight in the world. After five hard fought rounds Simon Marcus walked away with a unanimous decision victory. Muay Thai Authority caught up with the newly minted Lion Fight Light Heavyweight Champion after the fight to discuss the bout and who might be on his radar next. Simon also delivers on a little promise he made to MTA friend Anish Kapur.
Results and Recap: Lion Fight 9
Lion Fight 9 took place in Las Vegas this Friday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Simon Marcus and Artem Levin were set tangle in the night’s main event in their highly anticipated fight and they did not disappoint. With the Lion Fight Light Heavyweight Championship on the line it was not stop action. From the ring of the first bell to the ring of the final bell both fighters battled like to goliaths in the ring. To the surprise of many Levin was very willing to engage in the clinch with Marcus where both fighters jockeyed for position.
In the second round a punch from Marcus knocked out Levin’s mouthpiece and his killer instinct was obvious because as soon as he noticed it had fallen out Simon pounced. Despite the flurry from Marcus Levin was able to slow the attack down in the clinch until the referee called a break for the mouthpiece to be put back in.
When the fighters weren’t in the clinch both fighter landed clean punches and kicks, but with most of this fight being fought in the clinch it came down to who was more active. Despite both fighters constantly fighting for position Marcus continued to work knees from the clinch the entire time with an occasional elbow thrown in. In the end all three judges awarded the fight to Marcus. With the win Marcus is undoubtedly the world’s number one light heavyweight fighter and the first ever Lion Fight Light Heavyweight Champion.
In the co-main event Tiffany Van Soest was clearly the more skilled fighter against Natalie Yip. Despite Yip’s toughness and efforts, Van Soest was just a step ahead the entire fight. Yip’s best success came in the clinch early in the fight where she seemed to be stronger than Van Soest, but some quick adjustments by Van Soest mitigated any advantage that Yip might have had in the clinch. In the end the judges awarded Van Soest a unanimous decision victory.
Many people considered Kevin Ross the favorite to defeat Bernie Mendieta, but apparently Mendieta didn’t get the memo. After a first round that seemed like vintage Ross things changed. Mendieta began to push the pace as Ross seemed to slow down. Through the final four rounds it seemed Mendieta had pulled off the upset by out striking Ross and looking like the stronger fighter in the ring. When the fight went to the judges it seemed Mendieta was going to walk away with a unanimous decision, until Ross was announced the winner by split decision. Despite the very controversial decision, it was a great showing by the UK’s Mendieta, who is only 22 year old. With performances like that he has a bright future in the sport. Ross has now won two in a row since returning from his ACL surgery that had kept him out of action for a year.
Ognjen Topic put everyone on notice when he knocked out Paowarit Sasiprapa in the third round. Despite there being a huge gap in experience, a few hundred fights, Topic came out swinging. In the opening round Topic scored knockdown after landing a head kick in a flurry, but Paowarit was able to beat the count. In the second round Topic once again landed another head kick that sent Paowarit to the canvas, but once again he recovered. As the third round started another kick sent Paowarit down and the referee had seen enough and called the fight. Huge win for Topic and in decisive fashion.
In the night’s opening bout Jason Andrada and Erik Ruiz started off slowly until a right hand from Andrada connected as the round came to an end. Ruiz dropped in the corner and was not able to beat the referees count and the bout ended with one second left in the first round. That’s 2 (T)KO victories in Andrada’s first two pro fights. Great start to his professional career.

Kevin Ross talks upcoming fight with Bernie Mendieta at Lion Fight 9
Our friends over at Kickboxing24.pl conducted an interview with Kevin Ross about his upcoming fight with Bernie Mendieta. You can check out the interview on their website here, but you have to know how to read Polish. You can read the interview in English below.
Kevin will be fighting Bernie Mendieta at Lion Fight 9 tonight in Las Vegas. The event can be seen on AXS TV if you can’t make it out Vegas.
Kickboxing24: You have a big fight coming on the march 15th for the Lion Fight Promotion. Saw some of your pad work recently and it seems like you are in the shape of you life. Was it a tough training camp for you?
Kevin: I try to stay in pretty good shape year round just because I never know when fights will come up. Training for this camp had its challenges just like they all do but overall it went really well and I’m looking forward to putting on a show Friday.
Kickboxing24: Did you do a research on your upcoming opponent Bernie Mendieta? If yes, what are his biggest strengths in your opinion?
Kevin: Well there’s not much out there on him as far as video’s go, other than a few clips. My friend Justin Greskiewicz fought him a few years ago and basically confirmed what I had seen from the videos. He’s tough and likes to move forward, which should make for a great fight.
Kickboxing24: You trained in Thailand, what are the main differences between training there and in United States?
Kevin: This was my 6th time training in Thailand and basically the biggest difference between there and here is the fact that everyone that is training is there to get ready for fights, for the most part. Whereas here in the states you have people taking classes, people doing it for fitness, for fun, things like that. So it’s just really a different atmosphere, more intense, more serious.
Kickboxing24: Obviously when it comes to martial arts it feels like it’s all about MMA these days. Do you think muay thai (which is no doubt super exciting) can make it big in US?
Kevin: I think it can and will make it big here, it’s just a matter of time. Lion Fight is definitely leading the way and showing other promotions how it can and should be done. Hopefully more shows will continue to step their game up and the fighters will have more opportunities, it’s a win win for everyone, promotions, fans, fighters, etc.
Kickboxing24: You have trained with both of the Diaz brothers. How do you rate their stand-up game?
Kevin: Their boxing is hard to deal with. They just have one of those styles that no one can really emulate because it won’t work for anyone else. But it works for them as they have proven over and over again. I would say the one hole in their stand up game they have is in their kick defense but their toughness and resilience usually gets them through any troubles they have had in that department.
Kickboxing24: Do you think training martial arts is a good way to go for troubled kids? How training muay thai affected you?
Kevin: I think it can be one of the best ways. I’ve seen it time and time again, completely change kids, as well as adults, lives. It saved my life without a doubt. I was an alcoholic, partying every day, wasting my life, going down a very dark downward spiral, and muay thai completely turned my entire life around. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for muay thai.
Kickboxing24: Many people are inspired by you, does their faith add an extra drive during your preparations and fights?
Kevin: It gives me more motivation then they could ever know. Every time someone tells me I’ve inspired them or helped them in some way it not only surprises me but pushes me to do better and more every time.
Kickboxing24: Tell us a little bit about K-HERO project. Why are you supporting the cause?
Kevin: K-hero is an amazing company that benefits cancer research. I got involved with them around the time the company was starting up. I think anytime you can give back, especially to a great cause like this, you should and I’ve been very blessed to be a part of this company for all these years
Kickboxing24: What are your main goals for 2013?
Kevin: My goals have basically been the same from the start of my career. Fight the best people I can, improve as much as I can and put on the best fights that I can every time I get in there, win, lose or draw. Obviously this year I had to take a slight step back and have some so called “tune up fights”, even though I don’t believe in tune up fights, I take every fight very seriously, anything can happen in there. That being said I do hope to be back fighting the top ten type fighters later in the year.
Kickboxing24: Do you know anything about Poland? Maybe a shout-out to polish fans out there?
Kevin: Not really but I want all my Polish fans as well as all my fans across the world to know much they truly mean to me. You guys keep me pushing! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support all these years.
Kickboxing24: Thank you very much for the interview and best of luck to you on march 15 th I’m more than sure we are going to see a great fight!
Kevin: Thank you, I’m looking forward to it.

Artem Levin vs. Simon Marcus a year in the making, but well worth the wait
Artem Levin has been considered the best light heavyweight in the world for the past two years. In that time span Simon Marcus has been battling his way to the top and at Lion Fight 9 they will fight to see who the undisputed best light heavyweight in the world is. The fight between Levin and Marcus is over a year in the making. When the Muaythai Premier League (MPL) made its debut in 2011, everyone expected to see Artem Levin vs. Simon Marcus in the league championship, but the MPL folded after just three events. After the MPL, Levin continued to fight international opponents and continued to cement his number one status. All the while, Marcus worked to make his imprint on the North American Muay Thai scene.
By mid 2012, Artem Levin and Simon Marcus were set to fight in Thailand, but the fight fell through. The event was then rescheduled twice in late 2012, and each time the event was canceled. It seemed the fight that fans around the world wanted to see would never happen and then Lion Fight stepped up.
With both fighters now in Las Vegas ready to fight for the inaugural Lion Fight World Light Heavyweight Title, fans can rest assured that at Lion Fight 9 they will see the two best light heavyweights in the world lock horns.
Both Levin and Marcus have expressed their relief that the fight is finally happening.
“Yes, I’m excited. No more negotiations, plans, suggestions, speculations. It’s time get in the ring. Let’s know who’s the best”, said Levin.
Marcus expressed the same sentiments.
“I'm very happy to be getting this fight and opportunity”, said Marcus. “For me there is nothing more important in my fight career than to be established as the best fighter in the world and this is my chance to do so”.
Both fighters are well aware that they are at the pinnacle of their division, and at Lion Fight 9 the world will know who the best is. There will be no speculation, no assumptions, just the final result of what many expect to be a great battle.
Mutual respect for one another is something both fighters share, but confidence is something both fighters possess. When asked what advantage their opponent might have in the fight, each acknowledged some slight advantage in an area, but both stated they were not worried about it.
“His physical power and clinch are undoubtedly advantages”, said Levin. “But we can use it against him”.
Marcus listed experience as Levin’s advantage.
“The one advantage Artem may have is being more experienced than myself”, said Marcus. “But that has never been a problem in my fight career before. I believe when you have a strong foundation there are many ways to overcome a more experienced fighter.”
In a way it is a blessing in disguise that the fight fell through as many times as it did. Why? Because now that Lion Fight is on AXS TV it will be seen by fight fans across the country, and they won’t need to rely on a low quality or choppy stream.
Who will walk away the undisputed champion? That is anyone’s guess. The only thing that is certain is that come the end of Lion Fight 9 we will have our answer.

Las Vegas, NV -- “I took this fight because I want to settle once and for all who’s the best light heavyweight Muay Thai fighter in the world, and Lion Fight was the only promoter that could actually make this fight happen. When Scott Kent asked me to fight Simon Marcus on March 15 in Las Vegas, I immediately said yes. I’m here, Marcus is here, and it is on!”
Tomorrow night, live at the Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Lion Fight presents the Champion vs. Champion mega-fight Levin vs. Marcus for the first ever Lion Fight world light heavyweight championship. Fans can also watch the fight live on AXS TV starting at 10:00 p.m. ET.
No one in the Muay Thai universe will argue that Marcus and Levin are the two best in their weight classes. Fighting out of the highly respected Siam #1 School in Toronto, Ontario, the yet to be beaten Marcus started training in Muay Thai at just sixteen years old. Now 26, the 6’1” Canadian-Jamaican has been fighting pro since 2006, racking up an impressive 22-KO record. Considered by many as the very best in the world, he has yet to defeat Levin, which will stamp his number one ranking in the sport and crown him as Lion Fight’s new world light heavyweight champion.
Standing 6’3” and fighting out of Prokopyevsk, Russia (65-3), Levin is a multiple world light heavyweight Muay Thai champion with 31 KOs on record. He’s been fighting on the pro circuit since 2003, acquiring virtually every European title in the sport across three weight classes including the WBC Muay Thai World Light Heavyweight title, the ITS SHOWTIME MAX World Champion, the WMC Intercontinental Championship (76 kg.) and also becoming the qualifying tournament champion on the Russian version of The Contender. Now, in this long-awaited super fight at LION FIGHT 9, Levin is ready to not only add the Lion Fight title to his collection, but also destroy the legend of the Muay Thai fighter known as Simon Marcus.
As the night’s co-main event, Tiffany “Time Bomb” Van Soest (5-0-1) takes on Canada’s Natalie Yip, a North American Amateur Muay Thai Champion also fighting out of Siam #1 School in Toronto, Ontario. After amassing 23 fights as an amateur, Yip is making her pro debut in LION FIGHT 9. Van Soest, undefeated female bantamweight champion who trains out of the famed Blackhouse gym, returns to the Lion Fight ring to attempt another solid victory in the organization.
Also at LION FIGHT 9, Kevin Ross makes an immediate return to the ring fresh off his unanimous decision victory over Chris Kwiatkowski at LION FIGHT 8. Ross, a two-time WBC Muay Thai Champion takes on Bernie Mendieta, United Kingdom WBC Muay Thai Champion.

Simon Marcus talks upcoming fight with Artem Levin at Lion Fight 9
In the last year Simon Marcus has established himself as arguably the best Muay Thai fighter in North America, this Friday at Lion Fight 9 he will be fighting Artem Levin for the Lion Fight light heavyweight title. The winner between Marcus and Levin will be regarded as the best light heavyweight in the world. Simon Marcus took some time from his busy schedule to talk to Muay Thai Authority about the upcoming fight with Artem Levin.
MTA: You have a big fight coming up with Artem Levin at Lion Fight 9. How happy are you that this fight is finally happening?
Simon: I'm very happy to be getting this fight and opportunity. For me there is nothing more important in my fight career than to be established as the best fighter in the world and this is my chance to do so.
MTA: Has training for this fight changed at all from your previous bouts?
Simon: Yes, my training has changed but not by much. I would just say I have been pushing myself harder and practicing more to make sure that I am 100% for this fight.
MTA: If you had to pick on advantage Artem might possess, what would you say it is?
Simon: The one advantage Artem may have is being more experienced than myself. But that has never been a problem in my fight career before. I believe when you have a strong foundation there are many ways to overcome a more experienced fighter.
MTA: You came into Las Vegas a little over a year ago and you were booed by the crowd, but with your performances you have converted many into fans. How does it feel knowing you have such a good following outside Toronto?
Simon: It is a good feeling to gain support by giving fans good entertainment and beautiful Muay Thai. But at the end of the day whether I am supported by fans or not I will still be there to do one thing and that is win.
MTA: Everyone always focuses about what's going on in the ring, how has life changed for you outside the ring since your big breakout year?
Simon: Yes, life has changed for me. Last year I had the blessing of having a healthy baby boy and he has brought great joy to my life. Of course things change a bit when you have a child but other than that it has been pretty much the same. Still working hard to get better and living my dream of being number one.
MTA: Last year you did an interview with our buddy Anish Kapur and you said that after you beat Levin you would do a victory rap. Are we going to see you get on the mic and spit some lyrics after this fight?
Simon: Well I'm a man of my word so if see Anish I will honor that...lol.
MTA: This fight is going to be on AXS TV. Are you excited to get to fight in front of a live national audience, and does that motivate you at all to come out and make sure you put on a great fight?
Simon: Yes it is exciting to be able to perform in front of a national audience and gain more exposure for myself and for Muay Thai. But for this fight it wouldn't matter to me if not a soul was watching because this is something I have to prove to myself.
MTA: Any words for Artem before the fight? It's seems you to have a mutual respect for each other and there is no bad blood between you at all.
Simon: No I have no words for Artem, as you said I respect him as a fighter. And I am just focusing on myself leading up to this bout.
MTA: Any words for your supporters Simon?
Simon: Yes, I would like to thank everyone who has supported me thru the years and all who believe in me. I am focused and ready to gain victory in this upcoming battle. I would also like to send a message to all people that I have inspired that if you follow your heart you can live your dreams as long as you believe in yourself. Please keep this in mind as you tune in on March 15th....Love, Respect, Believe.

Ognjen Topic talks upcoming fight with Paowarit Sasiprapa at Lion Fight 9
Ognjen Topic (@TopicCreative) will be fighting Paowarit Sasiprapa on March 15 in Las Vegas at Lion Fight 9. Paowarit, a Thai champion will be Topic’s toughest test to date. Muay Thai Authority was able to catch up with Ognjen to speak about the upcoming fight and fighting such an experienced champion like Paowarit.
MTA: Big fight at Lion Fight 9 against Paowarit Sasiprapa how is training going Ognjen?
Ognjen: Training is going well. Everything is moving according to schedule.
MTA: Fighting a champion from Thailand like Paowarit, does anything change in your training camp?
Ognjen: It's mainly all mental from here on. I am a skilled fighter that can compete with the elite, I'm just missing 10 years of experience. This is where I have to think about everything I do and that he can do to me. With the vast experience level Paowarit has everything comes naturally whereas I have to think more to achieve the same results.
MTA: Now this fight was originally going to take place on Friday Night Fights then it was scrapped after Paowarit got hurt. How was it thinking you were going to fight Paowarit, then that you weren't, and then that you were again just with a different venue change?
Ognjen: It doesn't change anything. I was ready to fight him then. This just gave me even more time to sharpen my skills.
MTA: You are clearly considered an under dog against Paowarit. What do you feel you can use as your advantage in this fight?
Ognjen: My mind. Anything I do to him he will be ready for and has seen before, this is why I have to think to extreme measures to find openings and take advantage.
MTA: How excited are you about your fight being on AXS TV?
Ognjen: I am very excited about the fight airing on AXS TV. It's great to see the sport of Muay Thai receiving it's recognition in the USA. The only way from here is up.
MTA: Last time you fought in Vegas you were on the bad side of a controversial decision. Is that something you are a little worried about happening again?
Ognjen: Not at all, I treat every fight as a new challenge and as a new job.
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Ognjen: To all of my teammates - Thank you for helping me get ready for my fights over the years. Of course thank you my coaches, family and close friends or all of the support. You will not be disappointed.

Tiffany Van Soest talks upcoming fight with Natalie Yip at Lion Fight 9
Tiffany Van Soest has taken women's Muay Thai by storm since turning pro a year and a half ago. Her exciting style has made her a fan favorite and now that Lion Fight is on television fans across the nation are getting to see her put on action packed fights. Tiffany was kind enough to talk to Muay Thai Authority about her upcoming fight with Natalie Yip at Lion Fight 9.
MTA: Tiffany, you will be fighting Natalie Yip at Lion Fight 9, are you familiar at all with Natalie?
Tiffany: I'm not too familiar with her. What I do know is that she comes from a good camp and has more of a traditional style. I know that she hasn't fought in over a year or so and in a heavier weight class, if I’m not mistaken.
MTA: You have established yourself as the face of women's Muay Thai in the last year. How does it feel to be considered the representative for women in the sport?
Tiffany: It's great! I wouldn't have been able to do so without the pioneers that paved the way before me (Lucia Rijker and Miriam Nakamoto for example), but as far as today goes I feel honored and humbled. I guess there's a responsibility that goes along with it, but it's nothing that I won't try to fulfill.
MTA: You are known for your exciting fights from start to end. Is it difficult to keep your pace up an entire fight, or is it just how you were trained to fight?
Tiffany: It would be difficult to keep the pace that I do if I did not train the way that I do. I have a great team behind me that always pushes me to train and fight hard. From my strength and conditioning with @KSOSufc, to drills and sparring, I always work hard. I try to train for every fight like it will be the hardest of my life.
MTA: You were in a barn burner with Alexis Rufus your last time out and you knocked her out with a head kick followed up by some punches. Do you expect a similar fight this time out?
Tiffany: As for getting the win, yes. I try to never set an expectation as to how I will win, but I will always fight to the best of my ability and execute my game plan to get the W. Each opponent poses different threats and I know I have to adjust accordingly. I won't go out of my way to look for a knockout specifically, but if/when the opportunity presents itself, I will definitely take advantage and capitalize on it.
MTA: Now your last fight you mentioned you wanted to fight Lucy Payne. What's the deal with Lucy and her camp?
Tiffany: They had expressed some interest in a fight with me. There had been some words floating around facebook forums and some misconstrued theories as to why the fight "didn't or won't" happen, but I assure when the time is right and it can be arranged, I will take that fight. I'll fight whoever is put in front of me. I'm a fighter. It's just what I do. Like Muhammad Ali said- "It's a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."

MTA: You're still very young, but already have an accomplished resume. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Tiffany: That resume being even more accomplished! Hopefully still fighting! Definitely holding a few more titles. Whether it's Muay Thai, MMA, or pillow fighting. As long as my body is able and the passion still burns in my heart, I will fight.
MTA: Come March 15th on AXS TV what can fans expect to see from you in the ring against Natalie?
Tiffany: They might see some new tricks, they might see a different game plan, but as always, they can definitely expect to see me in my purest form, doing what I love... And getting my hand raised in victory, of course!
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Tiffany: Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for the support. Don't ever mistake my confidence for cockiness. I sweat, bleed, and cry to earn the confidence I have. It is because of the support I get from my family, coaches, team, friends, fans, and sponsors that I am confident in doing what I love. Much love to you all.

Natalie Yip will be fighting Tiffany Van Soest at Lion Fight 9 in Las Vegas on March 15. The event will air on AXS and feature the main event bout between Simon Marcus and Artem Levin, but before they tangle Yip and Van Soest will show the TV audience how exciting female fights can be. Yip was kind enough to answer some questions for Muay Thai Authority about her upcoming fight with Tiffany.

MTA: You will be fighting Tiffany Van Soest at Lion Fight 9. How has training for this fight been going?
Natalie: Training has been going well!
MTA: How familiar are you with Tiffany as a fighter?
Natalie: I have seen her fight 3-4 times on the Lions Fight Promotion cards so I am aware of her skills.
MTA: You train at Siam No. 1 with the likes of Matt Embree and Simon Marcus, not to mention under the tutelage of Ajahn Suchart. How is it training with two of the best in North America as well as one of the best coaches?
Natalie: It is amazing training with these three incredible individuals! All three are very different in the expertise they have to offer and their delivery. They are all very real and great people so I am very lucky to be in such a great training environment amongst many amazing people!
MTA: Where do you feel you will have an advantage in this fight if any?
Natalie: I believe I will have the reach and strength advantage. Everything else we will find out!
MTA: The fight will be televised on AXS TV; does that add any pressure to put on a great performance?
Natalie: Certainly the amount of publicity this event attracts adds to the pressure, however regardless of this, we as fighters have a job to do regardless of who is watching.
MTA: For fans not familiar can you give us some info on your back ground. When did you start training Muay Thai and why?
Natalie: I started training in Muay Thai when I was 18yrs old. I started the interest in martial arts with kick-boxing and Karate and then continued to look for the next challenge in the ring upon finding a Muay Thai gym I really meshed with. Since I've started, I've been training and fighting and have really enjoyed the journey of learning and developing in this intensive art. It's definitely not easy and not always uphill, but to invest your thoughts, time and efforts to improving yourself in a discipline becomes rewarding when you see development and growth.
MTA: Where do you see yourself in five years when it comes to your Muay Thai career?
Natalie: I have no idea! Hahaha, one day at a time! Only thing I know is Muay Thai will always be part of my life.
MTA: Any words for your supporters?
Natalie: Many thanks to everyone for your positive words and support! People have been amazing and I can not be more appreciative!

LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas-based Lion Fight Promotions made fighting history when it presented the first ever nationally televised full Muay Thai rules event with AXS TV last month. Scott Kent, CEO of Lion Fight Promotions, received rave reviews from the fight world, and was paid the highest compliment of all when some of the biggest stars in fighting showed up to take in the action. Oscar De La Hoya, Urijah Faber, Anthony Njokuani, Keith Jardine, Gilbert Melendez, Cheick Kongo, Ray Sefo and Dewey Cooper were among those in the packed house of Lion Fight 8 when Yodsanklai Fairtex KO’d Gregory Choplin in the night’s sizzling main event. Now, Muay Thai returns to the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Casino in Las Vegas, and live on AXS TV for “LION FIGHT 9” Friday, March 15 starting at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.
“It was phenomenal to have so much support from the fighting community and to see Lion Fight go live in homes all across America,” said Kent. “I am so thankful to Mark Cuban and Andrew Simon for believing in the potential of Muay Thai in this country, and am excited to be back on AXS TV for LION FIGHT 9. With every fight, we win over more and more fans because every card is stacked with the best Muay Thai fighters in the world who deliver the fast-paced action of kicks, punches, strikes, knees, elbows and knockouts!”
In addition to boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya who took in the action from a box suite high above the ring, many stars of MMA sat ringside and even worked corners at LION FIGHT. Urijah Faber, former champion and current UFC fighter, was thrilled with the night’s action. “Lion Fight’s event was awesome, it is pretty incredible to see the true masters of Muay Thai compete live and in person,” said Faber. “Yodsanklai Fairtex was amazing - so technical - he got me pumped up to do battle!”
Anthony Njokuani, UFC lightweight, showed up to support his teammate Fanny Tommasino who won on the undercard. “It was a great show with a lot of action packed fights, the best card I’ve ever seen,” said Njokuani. “Yodsanklai's performance was amazing and was a pleasure to watch him fight in person.”
Also attending from the UFC family was Gilbert Melendez, Cheick Kongo and UFC light heavyweight turned middleweight “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine who was blown away by the full Muay Thai rules fights. “I was totally impressed with the show, the production was fantastic, the crowd was pumped and the Muay Thai fights were a blast. I had so much fun, I definitely will be back for another one.”
Fans won’t have to wait long, as AXS TV announced last night on Inside MMA, Kent has already put together another mega-fight for LION FIGHT 9. As the main event, he has staged the one fight that no else could make happen: the battle between the two best light heavyweight Muay Thai fighters in the world. On Friday, March 15, live on AXS TV, in a Champion vs. Champion dream matchup, Simon Marcus and Artem Levin will finally square off. Only one will walk away with the newly minted LION FIGHT light heavyweight championship belt.
“I am thrilled that LION FIGHT is the promotion that was able to put together this long-awaited superfight between Marcus Simon and Artem Levin,” said Kent. “This is a world class fight, Muay Thai at its best, and Simon vs. Levin is taking place right here in Las Vegas, the fight capitol of the world, for the LION FIGHT light heavyweight championship belt.”
Now, in this long-awaited superfight at LION FIGHT 9, Levin is ready to not only add the Lion Fight title to his collection, but also destroy the legend of the Muay Thai fighter known as Simon Marcus.
The explosive, hard-hitting Muay Thai sensation Joe Schilling also returns to the ring at LION FIGHT 9 to face Mexico’s “El Tigre” Edwin Aguilera in a 185-pound matchup live on AXS TV. Rounding out the televised card is Ognjen Topic, fighting out of Lodi, NJ vs. Paowarit Sasiprapa from Bangkok, Thailand and a 120-pound fight between Las Vegan Jason Andrada vs. New York’s Erik Ruiz.
