4-Man Heavyweight Tournament set for Venum Victory World Series 4 October 24th in Panama

Venum Victory World Series will visit Panama City, Panama on October 24th. The event which will feature a main event bout between Cosmo Alexandre and Luis Castañeda has confirmed the four participants of their heavyweight tournament. 

The tournament semi-final bouts will be Lucas Alsina vs. Claudiu Istrate and Sergio Pique vs. Rafael De Souza. The tournament finals will take place on the same night.

In addition to the tournament and Cosmo Alexandre vs. Luis Castañeda, Marcus Fisher will be fighting against Marco Pique.

KO of the Week: Danyo Ilunga vs. Sergio Pique

Danyo Ilunga is one of Kickboxing's rising stars and he is the also the man delivering the KO in our KO of the Week. In this bout we see Ilunga take on Sergio Pique at Merseburger Fight Night in Germany. The one night 4-man tournament pitted Ilunga vs. Pique in the tournament finals and it took Ilunga one round to end the fight. A perfectly timed left hook from Ilunga flattened out Pique in vicious fashion. It was definitely a sign of things to come for Ilunga. FOX Sports San Diego to Televise WCK Muaythai Live

FOX Sports San Diego has recently announced scheduling to televise this weekend's WCK Muay Thai "Matter of Pride" event live.  The February 15th event is set for the 7:00 PM PST time slot and marks the first ever live WCK event for the network and their first for the 2014 calendar.

Fighters Jemyma Betrian vs. Thais Souza headline the evening's fights, with notable Bellator MMA champion Zoila Frausto making her Muay Thai debut.  The card also features former Strikeforce and Bellator fighter Virgil Zwicker who will face Sergio Pique. Zwicker makes a return appearance to the WCK stage and looks to take on the brother of veteran standup fighter Marco Pique.

WCK Muay Thai "Matter of Pride" set for February 15th in Temecula, CA

WCK Muay Thai will return on February 15, 2014 with "Matter of Pride". The event will take place at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA. The main event will feature Jemyma Betrian vs. Thais Souza and the co-main event will feature a re-match between Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker. Other fights set to take place at the event include Bryce Krause vs. Landon Simmons, Adam Rothwiler vs. David Huerta, and Afam Egbochuku vs. Charles Bisset.
 

Jemyma Betrian will be returning to the United States to fight for the first time since April of 2013 when she defeated Baitong Sumalee by first round knockout under the WCK Muay Thai banner. Betrian is one of the sports youngest and brightest stars and easily considered one of the top female fighters in the world.
 

Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker will meet in a re-match of their April 2013 fight which was won by Pique via split decision. The first fight had several wild exchanges throughout the bout and looked more like Rock Em' Sock Em' Robots. Nothing less should be expected from these two in the re-match.

WCK Muay Thai "Bad to the Bone" results

WCK Muay Thai “Bad to the Bone” took place this past weekend at the Pechanga Hotel and Casino in Temecula, CA. In the night’s main event Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker fought for five rounds with Pique earning a split decision victory. Zwicker seemed to be the stronger fighter earlier in the bout, but as he began to fade Pique began to pick up the action and was able to take the fight on two of the three judge’s score cards.

In the night’s co-main event Mike Lemaire took home a split decision over Andy Murad. Lemaire was coming off a “Road to Glory” tournament win and many thought he would simply walk through Murad, but that wasn’t the case. Murad kept the fight close by clinching and slowing down the pace of the fight and not letting Lemaire unload with his heavy strikes. In the end two of the judge’s saw the fight for Lemaire, giving him the win. Lemaire remains undefeated and pushes his pro record to 8-0.

Josh Aragon won scored a spectacular knockout in the fourth round of his fight with Karl Santiago. The Sityodtong Los Angeles product connected with a spinning elbow that sent Santiago crashing down to the canvas. It was an impressive knockout by Aragon who is now 2-0 since turning pro.

Jemyma Betrian needed only 30 second to dispatch of Baitong Sumalee. Betrian sent Sumalee to the canvas as soon as the fight started after connecting with a bunch. When Sumalee got back to her feet, Betrian pounced and unloaded on her ending the fight. It was a dominant and impressive performance by Betrian.

Afam Egbochuku scored a third round knockout over Miguel Cosio in a fight that was full of action. The pair actually scored a double knockdown in the second round, but in the end it was Egbochuku who earned the stoppage victory.

In the night's other pro bouts Joe Davidson defeated John Vargas unanimous decision, Adam Rothweiler defeated Adrian Morilla by unanimous decision, Marvin Madariaga scored a third round (T)KO over Greg Roberts, and Jacob Poss scored a flying knee knockout over Jason Rzepka.

Virgil Zwicker talks upcoming bout with Sergio Pique at WCK Muay Thai "Bad to the Bone"

Virgil Zwicker will step over to Muay Thai from MMA this upcoming weekend at the WCK Muay Thai’s “Bad to the Bone” in Temecula, CA at Pechanga Casino. Standing across from Virgil in the ring will be Sergio Pique. This match-up has already been interesting with some smack talk. In a recent interview with MMA Interviews, Zwicker stated that he didn’t think Sergio could take a punch and that didn’t sit well with Pique and he made a short video in response. Virgil took some time off from his busy training to answer a few questions for us about the upcoming match-up.

MTA: You are taking a Muay Thai fight against Sergio Pique on April 6th. How did the Muay Thai bout come about?

Virgil: Well it came about when one of my coaches Bob Chaney asked me if I would be interested in fighting Muay Thai, I said yes and here we are.

MTA: You are known for MMA, do you think training has been easier for this fight since you only have to focus on your stand up?

Virgil: I think training MMA is very tough on the body, so it has been a relief to just focus on my stand up and work every day on my technique.

MTA: Is this going to be a onetime thing or do you plan on trying to get a few fights in before going back to MMA?

Virgil: This defiantly will not be a onetime deal I am going to try and manage both MMA and Muay Thai careers.

MTA: Muay Thai and Kickboxing are both growing in the states, are you a fan of either as far as sitting down and watching event like Glory, Lion Fight or any others that are going on?

Virgil: I have been a huge fan for years and am glad to see that kickboxing and Muay Thai are making a surge in the states.

MTA: In a recent interview with MMAInterview.tv you said you didn't think Sergio could take a shot. Sergio wasn't too happy about this. He said in an interview with us, "Don’t know what he bases that on and I actually don’t care. Think he’s scared so I guess it’s a natural reaction from his side". What goes through your mind when someone says you are scared of them?

Virgil: I said that in a interview because I was told by my coaches that he didn’t have a chin, when I looked him up, he looked like a lot better fighter than was told to me. That being said I stand by my coaches and I don’t think he can handle my power, as far as being scared, he don’t pump no fear in my heart. I am a true native from Kummeyaay decent for generations my tribe has produced warriors and have fought for our land and on April 6th that’s what I am in the ring to do and only hatred, anger, and my killer instinct will be with me.

MTA: What was the reason you think Sergio can't take one of your strikes and do you think you’re going to knock him out?

Virgil: Because I hit like a truck and yes I am going to try and knock him out and I like being hit and he doesn’t.

MTA: This fight is in your backyard, do you think having the crowd on your side gives you an extra advantage going into the fight?

Virgil: Yes I do, me having my family friends and fellow RezDog's this place is going to be going crazy with my supporters.

MTA: Thanks for your time Virgil, any words for your supporters?

Virgil: I just want to thank my coaches and teammates for all there help and of course my wife and children.

Sergio Pique talks upcoming fight with Virgil Zwicker at WCK Muay Thai "Bad to the Bone"

Sergio Pique and Virgil Zwicker will meet at the upcoming WKC Muay Thai "Bad to the Bone" at Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA on April 6th. Sergio is the younger brother of Marco Pique, and has gathered a solid resume of his own. In a recent interview with MMA Interviews, Zwicker stated that he didn’t think Sergio could take a punch and that didn’t sit well with Sergio. He made this short video in response, and was more than happy to answer a few questions about his upcoming fight with Virgil.

MTA: Sergio you are fighting Virgil Zwicker on April 6th at the WCK Muay Thai show in Temecula, CA. How has training been going?

Sergio: I’ve trained for this fight like I’ve never trained before and I am very motivated to show the USA what I’m worth and to leave a very good impression.

MTA: Sergio what do you see as your biggest strength going into this fight?

Sergio: My biggest strength is that I’m coming prepared. I’m in shape as well when it comes to strength and technical skills.

MTA: In a recent interview Virgil stated you couldn't take a punch. What was your reaction when you heard this?

Sergio: My first reaction was “yeah right”! Don’t know what he bases that on and I actually don’t care. Think he’s scared so I guess it’s a natural reaction from his side.

MTA: Do you think he is underestimating you and if so why?

Sergio: Don’t know if he’s underestimating me, but if that’s the case that’s fine by me too. We’ll see what happens!

MTA: Do you think the fact that he has this pre conceived notion about you not being able to take a punch plays as an advantage for you?

Sergio: Don’t know if it is an advantage. Either way he’s going down.

MTA: Anything you have to say to Virgil?

Sergio: Don’t know him and I hope that he’s prepared to fight me. Don’t want to hear afterwards that he did not have an optimal training and that’s the reason why he lost the fight.

MTA: Can we get a prediction for the fight on April 6th?

Sergio: I’ll take him down in the second round. That’s my prediction! He won’t see round three!

MTA: Are you coming in looking to score a knockout or simply get the win with a knockout being a bonus?

Sergio: I’m coming to hurt him.

MTA: Your brother Marco has had a great career do you feel any added pressure when people find out you are related to him?

Sergio: My brother is my motivation. To see what he has accomplished makes me want to do the same, even more if possible.

Holzken, Pique and Betrian all win at Klaar Om Te Bossen 3

In the night's main event at Klaar Om Te Bossen 3 Nieky Holzken added another victory to his already stellar 2011 campaign. His opponent this time was American Cyrus Washington and despite a valiant effort, Holzken was walked away the winner. Holzken opened up a cut on Washington with a knee and the bout was halted in the second round because of this. Holzken how now won his last three fights in what has been an incredible year for him.

Suriname native Marco Pique and American Michael Corley fought in what is the first full rules Muay Thai fight in Suriname. Corley was looking to end a two fight skid which included back to back losses to Vuyisile Colossa. Sergio Pique talks about his upcoming fight in Suriname

Dynamic heavyweight fighter Sergio Pique will be fighting at Klaaromte Bossen on December 23rd in Suriname. Sergio a Suriname native took some time from his training to talk to Muay Thai Authority about the upcoming fight. 

For those not familiar with Sergio, he is the brother of Muay Thai and Kickboxing stand out Marco Pique. Originally from Suriname, he now resides in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

MTA: You are fighting on December 23rd in Suriname. How has your training for your fight been going?

Sergio: I try to put the same energy, focus and dedication in every fight. My training routine is always the same. I don’t change my routines for any opponent. I always try to stay fit and razor sharp for every fight.

Nieky Holzken vs. Cyrus Washington and Marco Pique vs. Michael Corley set for December 23rd event in Suriname

Klaaromte Bossen will take place December 23d in Suriname. The event which is being put together by WOW events will feature some top fighters from around the world. Dutch fighter Nieky Holzken has had a stellar year and will be looking to keep things going as he faces American Cyrus Washington in the night’s main event. Female stand out Jemyma Betrian will also be in action on the night as she takes on Lorena Klijn and Marco Pique against American Michael Corley.

Holzken’s only loss this year came to Ukraine’s Artur Kyshenko, but in his last two fights he has picked up quality wins over Marco Pique and Ky Hollenbeck. His pin point accuracy and timing make Holzken a nightmare for anyone in the ring with him. Washington is coming of a recent draw against Stephen Richards at Bangkok Fight Night 11. Washington was also recently a competitor on “The Challenger Muaythai” reality TV show.
